Boys Varsity Football vs. Newaygo HS School

Game Date
Oct 25, 2024
Score
: 14
NEWAYGO HIGH SCHOOL: 21

The Packers played hard, but had some missed opportunities and came up short on Homecoming 2024 losing the Newaygo 21-14.  The Packers fell behind early 7-0, but scored 30 seconds later on Karter Frens 68 yard touchdown run and a Khai Noordyk 2 point conversion gave the Packers an 8-7 lead after the 1st quarter.  The Packers were able to extend their lead when Braydey Crosley found Asa Barnhard for a 40 yard touchdown pass and a 14-7 halftime lead.  Newaygo came out of halftime with some fire and scored two 3rd quarter touchdowns to retake the lead and extend it to 21-14 at the end of the 3rd.  As the Lions were trying to ice the game, they fumbled and Chance Crawford recovered the ball giving the Packers had an opportunity to score.  Fremont moved the ball down inside the 20 and went for it on 4th down from the 17, but a missed questionable call, lead to a Packer turn over on downs and Newaygo  took a knee to end the game.  The Packers were lead offensively by Karter Frens with 84 yards on 17 carries and bringing his season rushing total to 1288 yards on the season.   Brayden Crosley was 7 for 15 passing for 172 yards and a touchdown.  Asa Barnhard had 3 catches for 73 yards and a touchdown reception and Cuyler Cook-Hansen had 2 catches for 51 yards.  The defense was lead by Diego Diaz with 12 tackles, Asa Barnhard with 10, Graison Hoppa with 9 and a fumble recovery, and Gavin LaMadline had 9 tackles.  The Packers end their season 2-7 and have a hungry young core of players coming back next year looking to improve on that record.  Thank you seniors for your hard work and dedication, good luck and you will be missed.
