Boys Varsity Football vs. Manistee High School

Lose: 7.00 - 40.00
The Packers closed the 2023 season with a 40-7 loss against a tough Manistee team. Manistee came out in the first quarter and took the ball down and scored to open the game with an 8-0 lead. The Packers answered right back and drove the ball down the field and found the end zone with a little trickery as Owen Hertel connected with Kyler DeKuiper on 33 yard halfback pass and Ben Mellema added the extra point to bring the score to 8-7 at the end of the first. Then it was all Manistee from then on, outscoring the 32-0 over the rest of the game to bring the final score to 40-7. Leading the way for the Packers was Talen Reichert-Slater 5/8 for 65 yards and an interception. Owen Hertel was 1/1 passing for 33 yards and a touchdown and had 3 rushes for 7 yards and 1 reception for 8 yards. Khai Noordyk had 7 rushes for 31 yards and Asa Barnhard had 6 rushes for 16 yards. Kyler DeKuiper had 1 reception for 33 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Burns had 2 receptions for 28 yards. Daniel Romero had 1 catch for 17 yards and Ben Mellema had 1 catch for 2 yards. Defensively the Owen Hertel and Noah Hansen both had 8 tackles, Connor Pettis had 7 tackles, Kyle Nagel had 6 tackles, Preston Hunt had 5 tackles and Quin Farrell had 3 tackles and an interception.
The Packers had lots of positive moments this season and a bright future to look forward to in 2024. The Packers have a lot of Juniors that got a lot of playing time and an experienced quarterback coming back and some good sophomore class looking to make their mark on the 2024 season.

The Packers started the game playing tough in the rainy conditions against the Division 4 top ranked Whitehall. The Packers defense made the Vikings work for both of their 1st quarter scores and a 14-0 lead at the end of the 1st. The Packers had some costly turnovers in the 2nd quarter and gave Whitehall a short field to work with and went in at halftime down 35-0. Coming out at half the Whitehall continued to pour it on adding two more touchdowns in the 3rd and one in the 4th. Talen Reichert-Slater was 6/14 for 52 yards and 2 INTs. The ground game struggled to find its footing in the wet conditions with Asa Barnhard leading the rushing attack with 20 yards on 9 carries. Tritan Corrigan lead the Packers in receiving with 3 receptions for 37 yards. Leading the way for the Packers defensively was Owen Hertel with 10 tackles, Connor Pettis with 8 tackles including 2 for a loss, Asa Barnhard and Quin Farrell both with 4 tackles. The Packers travel to Manistee next Friday at 7 to close out the 2023 season.

Montague then reeled off 21 straight points to push the lead to 28-7. The Packers put together a few drives that looked like they had promise, but they fizzled out and ended with a punt or turnover on downs. Talen Reichert-Slater finished the night 8/17 for 135 yards and 1 TD. Khai Noordyk added 24 yards rushing on 13 attempts. Kyler DeKuiper had 3 receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown. Owen Hertel had 4 receptions for 36 yards and 7 rushes for 14 yards. Lose: 13.00 - 32.00
The Packers came up short against for Homecoming 2023 when the visiting Cardinals from Orchard View came to town and won 32-13. Orchard View struck first in the first quarter and took an early 8-0 lead. The Cardinals then found pay dirt in the second quarter to go up 16-0 at half. The Packers came out of half with a fire lit under them. Talen Reichert-Slater connected with Jacob Burns for 35 yard touchdown reception to cut the score to 16-6 at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Packers playing desperately went for it twice on 4th down coming up short and giving OV a short field to work wtih and they capitalized both times bringing the score to 32-6. The Packers never gave up and late in the 4th quarter Khai Noordyk took the hand off 6 yards into the endzone to close out the scoring at 32-13. Talen Reichert-Slater finished the night 11/25 passing with 109 yards 1 touchdown and 1 INT. Khai Noordyk lead the rushing attack with 84 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown. Jacob Burns had 45 yards and a touch down on 3 receptions. Owen Hertel had 5 receptions for 48 yards and 33 yards rushing on 4 carries. Leading the way defensivly was Connor Pettis with 13 tackles, Kyler DeKuiper with 12 tackles, Levi Wimmer with 10 tackles, Noah Hansen with 8 tackles and Tritan Corrigan with 7 tackles. Next Friday night is Senior Night as the Packers play their final home game of the season against Montague at 7.

Lose: 14.00 - 26.00
The Packers fought hard Friday, but came up short against Oakridge. Oakridge drew first blood going up 8-0, but the Packers came right back when Talen Reichert-Slater connected with Daniel Romero for a 24 yard touchdown and Ben Mellema added the PAT to bring the score at the end of the first quarter 8-7. Oakridge added another score in increase the lead to 14-7, when Khai Noordyk took the handoff and scampered 24 yards for a Packer touchdown. Mellema added the PAT to even the game at half. The Packers had many opportunities and played tough in the 2nd half, but couldn't seem to put together any drives to reach the end zone. Oakridge added two more touchdowns to close out the scoring at 26-14 final. Leading the way for the Packers was Talen Reichert-Slater 13/24 for 150 yards 1 TD and 1 INT. Khai Noordyk had 68 yards on 23 attempts and a touchdown. Owen Hertel had 53 yards on 6 attempts and two receptions for 26 yards. Daniel Romero lead the recieving corp with 5 receptions for 65 yards and 1 TD. On defense, the Packers were lead by Hertel with 8 tackles, Connor Pettis with 7 tackles, Noah Hansen and Levi Wimmer both with 5 and Kyler DeKuiper with 4 tackles, a forced fumble and fumble recovery. The Packers play Orchard View for homecoming next week at 7.
Boys Varsity Football vs. Grant High School

Win: 20.00 - 0.00
In the battle for the Water Pail Trophy, the Fremont Packers beat the Grant Tigers 20-0 to keep the Water Pail for another year. The Packers controlled the game from the beginning and outgained the Tigers 314-74 total yards. Fremont opened the scoring in the first quarter when Kyler DeKuiper took the snap an plunged into the end zone. Ben Mellema added the point after. Khai Noordyk scored in the second from 12 yards out to push the lead to 13-0. In the 3rd quarter, Owen Hertel took the handoff and scored from 6 yards out and Ben Mellema added the point after to close out the scoring and bring the score to 20-0. Owen Hertel had a great all around game leading the Packers with 82 yards rushing on 11 attempts, 5 receptions for 49 yards and 5 tackles, 2 for loss and an interception. Karter Frens had 69 yards on 11 carries and Khai Noordyk had 61 yards on 16 carries. Connor Pettis lead the way on defense with 11 tackles, Trentyn Corley had 6 tackles and Levi Wimmer added 4. The Packers improve to 2-2 on the year and play home against Oakridge next Friday at 7.

Lose: 20.00 - 42.00
The Fremont Varsity struggled on both sides of the ball in the first half against Ludington and fell behind 42-6. The one bright spot was in the first quarter when Talen Reichert-Slater connected with Owen Hertel for an 80 yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 14-6. Ludington then reeled off 4 straight touchdown touchdowns. The Packers came out of halftime with a fire light under them. They were hitting harder and running harder. Khai Noordky in the 3rd quarter broke free and ran away from the Ludington defense for a 60 yard touchdown run. Ben Mellema added the extra point to bring the score to 42-13 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Packers scored once more in the 4th quarter Reichert-Slater again connected with Hertel for a 66 yard touchdown pass and Mellema added the point after to close out the scoring for the evening. Reichert-Slater finished the night 8/17 for 171 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Noordyk finished with 101 yards rushing and a touchdown. Hertel finished with 5 receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively the Packers were lead by Hertel with 11 tackles, 3 for loss. Daniel Romero had 6 tackles and Trentyn Corley had 5 tackers and an interception. The Packers host Grant next Friday.

The Fremont Varsity travel to Beaverton on beautiful evening for football. The Packers came out slow in the first half with drives that looked promising, but came up empty. The Packers went into halftime trailing Beaverton 12-0. The second half was different story though. The Packers began to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and started to wear down Beaverton. Asa Barnhard put the Pack on the board with 1:25 in the 3rd quarter on a 17 yard touchdown run. Ben Mellema added the extra point to cut the score to 12-7. With 6:17 in the 4th quarter Barnhard scored again on 1 yard run. Khai Noordyk added a two point conversion run to make the score 15-12. Barnhard had 106 yards on 20 carries. Owen Hertel added 51 yards on 6 carries and Khai Noordyk had 42 on 8. Talen Reichert-Slater was 5 for 11 on the night throwing for 36 yards. Leading the Packers on defense was Connor Pettis with 8 tackles, Chance Crawford and Daniel Romero with 4 each, Kyler DeKuiper, Asa Barnhard, and Andrew Steger all with 3. The Packers travel to Ludington next week for a WMC Lakes divistion showdown.
