Lose: 29.00 - 58.00
We got off to our normal slow start and we were down 15-2 after the first quarter, but against a really good Spring Lake team, we were not able to come back and make it competitive. We made a few short runs, and outscored them 9-7 in the third quarter to bring the score to 38-21, but we were just out of gas and could not get it any closer. Bottom line is Spring Lake earned the win and was better than us. Taylor DeKuiper led us with 9 points, Jessica Bennett had 7 and Mia Clemence had 6 points.
It doesn't diminish from the historic season our girls had though. We finished overall at 20-5, the most wins in 46 years and second most in program history. We went undefeated in League at 12-0, also the first outright conference championship in 46 years and we won districts for the first time since 2009....tonight wasn't our night, but our girls have alot to be proud of. I would like to recognize the outstanding contribution of our seniors, who without such great effort and leadership we would not have been successful. Thank you Jessica Bennett, Katie Ackerman, Olivia Hansen and Elise Pfeiffer....you will be missed.

Win: 49.00 - 40.00
Fremont 49 Grant 40
This was our first district championship in the girls program since 2009 and the first time we have won a conference championship and district championship in the same year since 1978.....46 year. It is also the most wins in school history since that 1978 team won 23.
We are notorious for getting off to slow starts....all season long, but we took it to a new level tonight. We didn't score until 1:30 or so to go in the first quarter and trailed 11-1. In the second quarter we made some shots and trailed 20-11 at half. We talked at halftime, if any team can come back after a bad start....its us. As we started to score, our full court pressure picked up, the huge crowd of Fremont Faithful got loud and momentum went our way. We took a breif lead in the 3rd, but grant scored to end the quarter and we were tied going into the 4th. Grant got a couple buckets early 4th, but momentum was ours and we outscored them 20-11 in the 4th. Riley Again game up big with 12 points and 8 steals. Jessica Bennett had a monster game with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Freshmen Taylor DeKuiper, who did not come out of the game, had 9 points, 12 rebounds and 7 steals. Khaila Noordyk had 6 points and 6 rebounds before hurting her knee in the third quarter and not being able to return.
Our girls are just resilient and have no quit. I am so proud of them for not giving up or hanging their heads when we were down at least 14 points early. We have so many that contributed throughout the game. Riley Chase was again Huge just like Wednesday. Taylor DeKuiper scored 7 of her 9 in the 4th quarter and Jessica Bennett is just Clutch. She had 8 of her 16 in the 4th including a 27 foot 3pt shot after grant scored mid 4th. She is fearless.
We play Spring Lake Monday at Sparta. We lost to Spring Lake in the first game of the season. In the locker room after the game I told the girls if they worked hard, worked together and if they trusted what I was going to teach and coach them, we would see Spring Lake again in Regionals. Not sure they believed me then, but Here We Come. We are 20-4, 12-0

Win: 45.00 - 32.00
Fremont 45 Sparta 32
This one was ugly from the start, but the playoffs are not a beauty contest, its win and move on. Sparta had ended the girls season in districts in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2021. We have not beaten them in the playoffs in recent memory so It was nice to send them home. We greatly struggled taking care of the ball throughout the game, especially early where we turned the ball over on our first 5 possessions without getting a shot. Sparta got off to a 8-0 lead and 10-2 before we hit a few shots. Riley Chase had all of our first quarter points including two huge 3pt shots to put us within two at the end of the quarter, 10-8. We settled in some and outscored Sparta 13-8 in the second quarter to take a 21-18 halftime lead. Our turnovers and sloppy play prevented us from really extending the lead. In the second half our full court pressure really wore Sparta down creating alot of Sparta miscues, unfortunatly we continued to be sloppy with the ball and only led by 7 entering the 4th, 35-28. We did a better job in the 4th taking care of the ball and we made 8-10 free throws to put the game away. It was a huge adjustment for us in practice yesterday and the game as one of our best and most important players, Mia Clemence is out with a bad ankle sprain and we had another not play early because of illness....but our girls are resilient and made adjustments throughout the game to win and move on. As we have all year we got contributions from multiple girls. Riley Chase had a huge game with a game high 17 points to go with 8 steals. Jessica Bennett hit some huge shots in the middle two quarters and ended with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 7 blocks. Khaila Noordyk played great off the bench with 6 points and 9 rebounds. Taylor DeKuiper had 7 steals to go with her 7 rebounds. We will play Grant on Friday in the District Championship at 7pm. We are 19-4, 12-0.

Win: 44.00 - 31.00
Fremont 44 Fruitport 31
We jumped out ta an 8-0 lead early but then struggled to find the basket for a bit. We led after the first quarter 8-6. The second quarter was better as we built a 24-11 lead at halftime. After that the closest it got was 8 as we were able to secure a hard fought win on the road. It wasn't always pretty, but we found a way to build a lead and keep it there. Freshmen Taylor DeKuiper had a big night with 11 points, 5 steals and 15 rebounds. Khaila Noordyk had 8 points and 6 rebounds, Olivia Hansen had 6 points and 7 rebounds, Riley Chase had 6 points, both Mia Clemence and Jessica Bennett had 4 points, Katie Ackerman 3 points and Eliana Vandenberg had 2 points. We finished the regular season 18-4, 12-0. We play at 5:30pm at Newaygo on Wednesday against the winner of Sparta/Newaygo who play Monday.
Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Ludington Area Schools

| Peter Zerfas
Win: 42.00 - 38.00
Fremont 42 Ludington 38
We we able to beat a very good and well coached Ludington team to go 12-0 in the league and win Fremont Girl's first outright conference championship since 1978. Fremont won a conference championship shared with Big Rapids in 2020. I told the girls from day 1 that the conference championship goes through Ludington. They had won 5 in a row and I have the upmost respect for Coach Stowe and the program he runs.
I thought if Ludington was able to keep the score and the pace of the game low, we would have a hard time. We like to speed the game up. Well, the pace was slow because Ludington plays great defense. They are long and athletic and do a great job limiting shots. What kept us in the game and ultimately won the game was our defense. We showed we can win a grind it out style game as well as a fast paced game. We led 8-6 after one quarter and 17-12 at halftime. We scored first in the third quarter but then Ludington made a run and by the end of the third it was Ludington 27 Fremont 26. The fourth quarter was just a battle of two proud teams that work extremely hard. We took the lead late in the 4th, maybe 2 minutes to go, and held on. We had 5 different people score in the 4th. Jessica Bennett came up big late again scoring 7 in the 4th quarter when we needed it most. In the first game at Ludington when we trailed by 8 in the 4th, Jessica hit 3 triples in the span of 2 minutes to put us ahead. Riley Chase also played great in the second half scoring 11 of her 13 in the second half. Scoring for us was Riley Chase with 13, Jessica Bennett with 10, Taylor DeKuiper with 7 points and 10 rebounds, Mia Clemence with 5 points, 4 assists and 8 rebounds, Olivia Hansen with 4 points, Eliana Vandenberg with 2 and Katie Ackerman with 1 point and 5 assists. We are now 17-4, 12-0 and we play at Fruitport to close out the regular season.
Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Manistee High School

| Peter Zerfas
Win: 82.00 - 54.00
Fremont 82 Manistee 54
We were able to secure at least a share of the conference championship with an 82-54 win over Manistee tonight. In the last month we have averaged 62 points per game, but didn't shoot well on Wednesday vs. Mason County Central and only hit for 50. Tonight we played with great energy and had everyone contribute and play big minutes during the game. We led 21-14 after the first quarter but had a great second quarter scoring 27 points and taking a 48-23 lead into halftime. The second half we continued to shoot well and ended up winning 82-54. We had incredibly good balance with players scoring 19, 15, 13, 12, 8, 7, 4, 3 and 1. Jessica Bennett had a great game with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 blocks. Riley Chase had 15 points and 6 steals. Taylor DeKuiper had 13 points, 8 steals and 8 rebounds. Mia Clemence had 12 points, four triples and 8 assists. Eliana Vandenberg had 8 points, Khaila Noordyk had 7, Elise Pfeiffer had 3. Olivia Hansen had 14 rebounds to go with 3 points. Katie Ackerman had 5 steals and 5 assists. Freshmen Taylor DeKuiper set the all time single season steals record tonight. She had 8 steals tonight bringing her season total to 111 breaking Bre (Harris) Vanvleet's record of 109. Junior Riley Chase is close behind with 101.
We play Ludington Tuesday at home. They are 10-1 in league and have not lost since we beat them at Ludington 41-35 on Jan 23rd. We are 16-4, 11-0. Tuesday will be our last league game.
Girls Varsity Basketball vs. Mason County Central HS

| Peter Zerfas
Lose: 50.00 - 59.00
Mason County Central 59 Fremont 50
We struggled early in this game with far too many turnovers, giving Mason County Central early momentum. Most of the turnovers were unforced turnovers. We turned the ball over 9 times in the first quarter which helped MCC take an early 21-12 first quarter lead. MCC increased its lead to 38-25 at halftime as we had 15 first half turnovers. MCC is a very good and experienced team, they moved the ball well and found open shooters, but we helped by giving the ball away 15 times in the first half. We regrouped and played much better in the second half. We cut the lead to 8 at the end of the third quarter, 50-42, and then cut the lead to 4, 54-50 with 1:20 to go in the game, but we were forced to foul late and MCC made their free throws down the stretch. We showed a lot of fight after getting down as many as 17 in the second quarter and getting it down to 4, but you cannot dig yourself that big of a hole vs such a good team on the road and expect to come away victorious. We will learn and move on. We are 15-4, 10-0 in league and play a key league game at home Friday vs. Manistee. Riley Chase had a career high 19 points to lead us, Jessica Bennett had 13, Taylor DeKuiper had 9, Mia Clemence had 6 and Khaila Noordyk had 3.

Win: 53.00 - 37.00
Fremont 53 Whitehall 37
Whitehall came out strong in this game and took an early 14-9 lead after the first quarter. We have talked about how every team will be giving us their best shot and we have to learn how to handle that. Whitehall has also made huge improvements throughout the year. We settled in and outscored Whitehall 17-9 in the second quarter and 13-5 in the third quarter. All of the 4th quarter we led by 10 points or more. We had really good balance again as we prove we are not just one or two players. Jessica Bennett led us with 15 points and 10 blocks, Mia Clemence had 10 points and 6 steals. Taylor DeKuiper had 10 points, 7 steals and 7 rebounds. Riley Chase had 7 points and 5 steals, Katie Ackerman and Eliana Vandenberg both had 5 points. We are now 15-3, 10-0 in league and play next at Mason County Central on Wednesday in a makeup game. .

Win: 69.00 - 45.00
Fremont 69 Shelby 45
We were able to come away with a win at home against a very scrappy and hard working Shelby team. We trailed after the first quarter 16-15 but was able to regroup and outscore Shelby 38-16 over the next two quarters. We led at halftime 35-27. We made a few adjustments in our press at halftime and scored the first 14 points of the third quarter. I thought it was a total team effort to get this win as Shelby played a very strong game and had a great game plan against us. Jessica Bennett had a career high 27 points to go with 8 blocks. Freshmen Taylor DeKuiper also had a career high with 18 points to go with her 10 steals. Mia Clemence had 10 assists and 4 points, Riley Chase had 6 points and 6 steals, Olivia Hansen and Khaila Noordyk both had 6 points and Eliana VandenBerg had 2. Grace Evans had 4 assists. I though the defense played by Katie Ackerman and Riley Chase in the second half changed the entire game. They were incredible. What they did allowed others to get steals and have scoring opportunities. Lots of credit to assistant coach Jared Hudson for breaking down their press break for us to adjust to. It was just a total team effort on our girls part tonight with everyone contributing. We are now 14-3, 9-0. We play Whitehall at home on Thursday.

Fremont 63 Orchard View 14
This game was really never close as we took at 14-2 first quarter lead, and led 34-3 at halftime. Everyone got to play and contributed in one way or another. Eliana VandenBerg led us in scoring with 15 points, Olivia Hansen had her best game of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Mia Clemence had 10 points and Jessica Bennett had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Both Katie Ackerman and Taylor DeKuiper had 6 points. Grace Evans had her best game of the season with 5 points and 6 assists. We are 13-3, 9-0. We play at home against Shelby on Monday.

Win: 55.00 - 45.00
Fremont 55 Montague 45
Tonight we celebrated National Girls and Women in sports day a day early by inviting our entire youth basketball program K-12 to attend the game. We have over 150 girls playing basketball K-12 and most were in attendance tonight.
We survived a horrendous shooting night with great defense and creating 30 turnovers. We shot 14-65 from the floor and missed 20 free throws. We led 19-6 after the first quarter and 35-17 at half, but we only shot 9-35 in the first half. In the second half Montague took advantage of our cold shooting by outscoring us 17-6 in the third quarter, as we shot 3-17 in that quarter. The 4th saw Montague cut our lead down to 3 with 5 minutes to go, but we regrouped, finally made our free throws (9-13 in 4th) and we were able to get a key league win.
Montague has improved a ton, you could see it on film, but I thought we could have put this game out of reach in the first half with better shooting and making our free throws. We came out with great energy, we just have to finish shots. We did have very balanced scoring with Mia Clemence 13 points, Riley Chase 12 points, Jessica Bennett 12 points, Taylor DeKuiper 10 points and Olivia Hansen 5 points. Riley Chase also had 11 steals. Mia Clemence had 7 steals and 5 assists. Taylor DeKuiper had 4 steals and 7 rebounds, Jessica Bennett had 7 rebounds and Katie Ackerman had 5 steals. We are 12-3 overall and 8-0 in League. We play Friday at Orchard View.

Win: 54.00 - 33.00
Fremont 54 Oakridge 33
At Oakridge......We started the game with steal after steal, forcing 10 Oakridge turnovers in the first quarter, but we just could not finish at the basket making only 3 of 17 shots and we trailed 12-9 after one. We regrouped in the second and let 22-18 at halftime. In the third we turned up the pressure and scored 23 points to Oakridge 10 and led 45-28. Most of the 4th quarter we were up around 20 points. All 11 players contributed with 9 scoring for us. Jessica Bennett had 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Katie Ackerman had 9 points and 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Khaila Noordyk had 9 points and 7 rebounds. Mia Clemence had a good all around game with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 8 steals and 4 assists. Taylor DeKuiper had 5 points, both Riley Chase and Eliana Vandenberg had 4 points and Olivia Hansen had 3 points to go with her 7 rebounds. We are 11-3, 7-0

Lose: 66.00 - 69.00
Morley Stanwood 69 Fremont 66
We lost a heart breaker to state ranked Morley Stanwood 69-66. Morley was our last loss on December 30th at the Reed City Holiday Championship game. It was back and forth in the first quarter and Morley led 13-12. We had a great second quarter with 7 different packers scoring and outscored Morley 24-10 to take a 36-23 halftime lead. Morley outscored us 24-13 in the 3rd quarter and cut our lead down to 2 points heading into the 4th. The 4th quarter was back and forth the whole time between two really good teams, but Morley made a few more plays, hit 3 timely triples, and ended up winning a thriller 69-66. This was a great high school basketball game between two very good teams, we just ended up on the losing end of this one. Give Morley credit for that. They are 12-1 and State ranked with their only loss to the #5 team for a reason. Our girls played hard, made lots of plays and shots, and we will learn from it and regroup for Thursday when we play Oakridge. Jessica Bennett led us with 17 points, Mia Clemence had 14, Khaila Noordyk had 13 points, Riley Chase had 7 points, Taylor DeKuiper had 6 points and Olivia Hansen had 5. We are 10-3, 6-0 and resume league play at Oakridge on Thursday.

Win: 77.00 - 47.00
Fremont 77 Manistee 47
This game made me nervous traveling up to second place Manistee to play just two days after an emotional win at Ludington on Tuesday. Our girls were not nervous though and had their best 1st quarter of the year scoring 24 points to Manistees 8. Mia Clemence hit for 4 triples in the first quarter. The lead never got under 16 with all 11 players contributing. Mia Clemence led us with 20 points and 5 steals, Riley Chase had 18 points and 7 steals. Taylor Dekuiper had 11 points and 7 steals. Khaila Noordyk had 9 points. Eliana Vandenberg had 7 points, Jessica Bennett had 5 points, 7 rebounds and 7 blocks. Olivia Hansen had 6 points and 5 rebounds. Katie Ackerman had 7 assists and 5 rebounds. We are 10-2, 6-0 and play State Ranked Morley Stanwood on Tuesday. They were the last team to beat us in December in the championship game of the Reed City Holidat tournament.

We were able to travel to Ludington and beat Ludington for the first time since 2007. Our girls had lost 23 straight times to Ludington until now. Our girls battled foul trouble with 4 starters having 4 fouls in the 4th, and we overcame a poor shooting night shooting only 27%....but our defense was great. This is a huge win for our team and program, but we understand we are only 5 games into a 12 league season and have a long ways to go. Ludington is the gold standard for girls teams in this area winning the last 5 conference championships, so this puts us in a good position, but we will still take it one game at a time.
It was a pretty close first half as we were tied 17-17 at half. Ludington outscored us 12-6 in the 3rd and built the lead to 8 early 4th...but we have no quit. Jessica Bennett hit three huge 3pt shots with 330, 3 min and 230 to go and Mia Clemence had 8 of her 16 down the stretch. We took the lead with about 230 to go and led the rest of the way. Mia Clemence had 16, Jessica Bennett 15, Taylor DeKuiper 5points. We are 9-2, 5-0 and play at Manistee Thursday

Win: 65.00 - 18.00
Fremont 65 Ravenna 18
We were able to beat Ravenna at home 65-18 a day after a hard fought win against Grant. All 10 players contributed and played well in the rout. There was a running clock for most of the 4th quarter. Ravenna had won 3 of their last 4 games but our pressure defense created alot of turnovers and good looks at the basket. When we were not getting to the basket we had our best shooting night from outside hitting 10 of 27 three point shots. Freshmen Taylor DeKuiper led us with a career high 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 three-point shots made. Sophomore Eliana VandenBerg also had a career high 12 points to go with 5 steals. Khaila Noordyk had 10 points and 7 rebounds, Riley Chase had 10 points and 6 steals, Mia Clemence had 6 points and 5 assists, Jessica Bennett had 5 points and 6 rebounds, Olivia Hansen had 3 points and both Katie Ackerman and Grace Evans had 2 points. Katie Ackerman had 5 steals and 5 assists. Elise Pfeiffer played great on defense with 2 steals. We are 8-2, 4-0 and travel to Ludington on Tuesday for a matchup of undefeated league teams. I believe Ravenna is 2-6.

Win: 47.00 - 41.00
Fremont 47 Grant 41
We were able to beat a very good and well coached Grant team 47-41 with grit, determination and a total team effort. It might not always show up on the stat sheet, but every girl that played tonight did her job and that is why we were able to win. We led 14-13 after the first quarter and had a 22-17 lead with 4 minutes to go in the half, but Grant was able to turn us over 5 straight times at one point without us getting the ball across half court and they took a 28-24 lead into halftime. Grant built the lead up to 35 -26 before we were able to regroup and score the last 8 of the third quarter...Grant led 35-34 heading into the 4th. The 4th was just a battle of two teams fighting hard on every possession. We were able to make a few more shots down the stretch and won 47-41. The last 12 minutes of the game we won 21-6. Mia Clemence had her best game of the season with a career high 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 steals. Jessica Bennett had 9 points and 7 rebounds. Both Riley Chase and Taylor DeKuiper had 6 points apiece and Khaila Noordyk and Eliana VandenBerg had 4 points each. We are 7-2, 4-0 and we play at home against Ravenna tomorrow night.

Win: 56.00 - 3.00
Fremont 56 Muskegon Orchard View 3
We once again got off to a slower start making only 3 of 16 first quarter shots, I think the result of playing our 4th game in the last 7 days, but our defense was special tonight. We led 9-3 after one quarter and Orchard View didn't score again. They scored their last points at the 5:00 minute mark of the 1st quarter. Orchard View was also coming off back to back wins coming into this game. The second quarter we scored 27 points, the third quarter we scored 15 and 5 in the last quarter. Most of the second half was played with a running clock. Khaila Noordyk and Jessica Bennett led us with 12 points apeice, Taylor DeKuiper had 11 points, both Mia Clemence and Riley Chase had 8 points, Hallie Snyder with 3 points and Eliana VandenBerg had 2 points. We are 5-2, 3-0 in league. Our next game is away on Tuesday at Whitehall.

After that we started to heat up and outscored Tri-County 23-2 in the second quarter and 18-4 in the third. We were able to beat a very tough Reed City girls team 53-49 at Reed City in the first round of their holiday tournament. We will play undefeated Morley Stanwood in the championship game Saturday at 3pm. Morley Stanwood beat Division 1 Alpena in the 1pm game. We led most of the game by 2 to 5 points but with 3 minutes to go it was tied 49-49. We outscored them 4-0 down the stretch. Jessica Bennett had a career high 25 points and 8 rebounds. Win: 42.00 - 34.00
Fremont 42 Montague 34
We improved to 2-0 in the league and 2-1 overall with the road win at Montague. We came out strong and led 16-6 after the first quarter and 29-10 at halftime. Our pressure defense created alot of turnovers we were able to capitalize on. In the second half we had built up a 22 point lead early in the 4th leading 40-18 before Montague made a late run to close the gap to 8, hitting 3 or 4 shots in the last minute. Mia Clemence led us with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Jessica Bennett had a big game with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Olivia Hansen had 9 rebounds to go with 2 points. Grace Evans had 6 points, Riley Chase had 5 points and 6 steals, Eliana Vandenberg had 2 points and 5 steals. Taylor DeKuiper had 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
I thought we came out with great energy and forced the pace to be fast. Our rotations are getting better each time we play and you can see the team chemistry is building day by day. I just love how hard this group works in practice and games and it is beginning to show positive results. Our next game is in Reed City for a holiday tournament December 29th vs. Reed City.

Win: 39.00 - 18.00
Fremont 39 Oakridge 18
We survived a cold shooting night with great team defense tonight to earn our first win. It was the first time we have beaten Oakridge dating back over 20 years. The first quarter both teams had a hard time scoring and it was 5-5 after one. We really stepped up the intensity of our defense and outscored Oakridge 10-0 in the second quarter. The third quarter was again a struggle to find the basket and we led 21-13 heading into the 4th where we outscored Oakridge 18-5 to win the ballgame 39-18. Overall we only shot 3-21 from 3pt land and 14-51 overall, but we had 9 different girls score. Early on we turned the ball over and didn't rebound well but in the second quarter we didn't allow a single second chance point off rebounds and were able to extend our lead. Freshmen Taylor DeKuiper had a breakout game with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 8 steals. Mia Clemence had 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Also scoring were Eliana VandenBerg with 5, Khaila Noordyk and Riley Chase with 4 apeice, Olivia Hansen with 3, Jessica Bennett with 2 and Hallie Snyder and Katie Ackerman both with 1. We are 1-1, 1-0.

Lose: 32.00 - 54.00
We lost our opening game at home to a very good Spring Lake team 54-32. Spring Lake jumped out to an 8-0 run early and led 17-7 after the first quarter. They took a 36-11 lead into halftime as we struggled with their pressure. We had 17 Turnovers at halftime and 27 for the game. Spring Lake converted those turnovers into 25 of their points. We played a much better half in the second half and outscored Spring Lake 21-18 even though they continued to press. This was a good sign of how hard our girls work and how they did not give up. We talked about after the game that playing such a well rounded and talented team early is good for us. Spring Lake also hit 8 3pt shots to our 2. Leading Fremont was Mia Clemence with 9 points and 5 steals and Jessica Bennett with 7 points and 5 rebounds. Both Alexa Carter and Ella Andree had 16 points apiece for Spring Lake.
