Fremont 51 Newaygo 37
We started out strong with a 16-6 first quarter lead which we built into a 31-11 halftime lead. Newaygo outscored us 12-9 in the third quarter and 14-11 in the 4th, but we maintained a double digit lead the entire second half. We were still up 17 with 2 minutes to go. The first game in Districts is always the toughest and playing a very good and well coached Newaygo team made it all the tougher. Riley Chase had a huge game with 22 points and 7 steals. Mia Clemence had 14 pointss, 10 rebounds and 7 steals. Taylor DeKuiper only scored 2 points, but had 10 rebounds and 5 steals. Khaila Noordyk played huge minutes off the bench and had 5 points and 9 rebounds. Ella Shriver had 5 points and 5 steals. Brynna Barnhart had 3 points and 3 blocks. We play Big Rapids in the Championship game on Friday at 7pm. Big Rapids is 20-2. We are now 21-2.

Fremont 72 Tri-County 19
We were able to win on Senior Night 72-19 vs. Tri-County. We led 40-10 at halftime and had a running clock part way through the 3rd quarter. Seniors Mia Clemence, Riley Chase and Khaila Noordyk all started and played great. Mia Clemence had 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Riley chase had 12 points and 5 steals. Khaila Noordyk had 7 points and 8 rebounds. Also contributing was Taylor DeKuiper with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists. Grace Evans had 6 points, both Ariana Tanner and Breven Powell had 5 points, Ella Shriver had 4 points and Taylor Johnson had 2 points. It is the first time in school history that a girls basketball team has had back to back 20 win seasons. It was also our 12th straight win. We are 20-2, 12-0. We play Wednesday at 7pm vs Newaygo at Fremont in the semi-finals of districts.
Fremont 63 Manistee 38
We were able to win our 12th league game this season going undefeated in league for the second straight season. It took a balanced attack vs a much improved Manistee team. The score was 14-12 after the first quarter. We adjusted our press in the hudle between quarters and the girls ran it beautifully. In the second quarter Mia Clemence scored 9 points and Taylor DeKuiper had 7 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. We won the 2nd quarter 22-7 to take a 17 points lead into halftime. We quickly built up a 20 points lead in the second half and it stayed there the rest of the way. Taylor DeKuiper flirted with a quadruple double for the second straight game and ended with 17 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists and 7 steals. Mia Clemence had another all-around game with 13 points, 13 steals, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Riley Chase had 10 points and 6 steals. Ella Shriver had 9 points and 5 rebounds. Khaila Noordyk had 6 points, Taylor Johnson had 4 points, Grace Evans had 2 points and Brynna Barnhart had 2 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blcoked shots. We are 19-2, 12-0. We play at home Thursday vs. Tri-County and it is Senior Night.
Fremont 70 Oakridge 33
We were able to win our second straight outright conference championship tonight with a 70-33 win at Oakridge. It is the first time our girls basketball program has won back to back conference championships in 48 years. We have a chance to go undefeated in league again this year after going 12-0 last season. It was 18-10 after the first quarter and 42-14 at halftime. It was then 58-25 after the third quarter. 11 different girls scored in this one with Taylor DeKuiper leading the way with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 steals. Riley Chase had 11 points and 6 rebounds. Mia Clemence had 10 points, 12 rebounds and 5 steals. Ariana Tanner had her best varsity game with a career high 10 points and 8 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring was Ella Shriver with 5, Anna Norris with 5, Grace Evans with 4, Brynna Barnhart with 3, Khaila Noordyk with 3, Taylor Johnson with 3 and Breven Powell with 2. We are 18-2, 11-0. We have won 10 in a row and 23 straight league games. We play Manistee at home on Friday at 5:30pm.
We were able to clinch at least a share of the conference championship tonight with a 60-28 road victory over Whitehall. We led 20-12 after the first and 29-15 at halftime. We had another good third quarter outscoring Whithall 23-4. Taylor DeKuiper led us with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Mia Clemence had 14 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds. Riley Chase had 8 points and 7 rebounds. Anna Norris and Brynna Barnhart both had 6 points, Taylor Johnson had 4, Grace Evans had 3, Ella Shriver had 3 and Khaila Noordyk had 1 point. We are 17-2, 10-0 and we play at Oakridge on Tuesday.
We traveled to Shelby to take on a very good 14-3 Shelby team. I thought we played very good on defense, but didn't excecute well on offense. We had far too many unforced turnovers limiting our shots and chances to extend the lead throughout the game. We led 14-10 after one and 29-19 at halftime. We had chances to really extend the lead in the third but kept turning the ball over and led 40-32 after 3. We did get our lead up to 16 in the fourth and it stayed in double digits for the 4th. Mia Clemence led us with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals. Taylor DeKuiper had 17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists. Khaila Noordyk had 6, Riley Chase had 5 and both Taylor Johnson and Ella Shriver had 2. It is our second 8 game winning streak of the season. We are 16-2, 9-0 and we play at Whitehall on Friday.
Fremont 59 Orchard View 32
We started out with a 22-1 lead 4 minutes into the game and played all 12 players throughout the rest of the game. The score was never close. We led 39-16 at halftime and outscored Orchard View 20-16 in the second half. Mia Clemence had 24 points, 7 steals and 6 rebounds. Khaila Noordyk had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Riley Chase had 8 points and 5 steals. Taylor DeKuiper had 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Brynna Barnahart had 7 points. Ella Shriver had 3, Anna Norris had 2 and both Grace Evans and Taylor Johnson scored 1 point. We are 15-2, 9-0 in league and we play away at Shelby on Monday.
Fremont 56 Ludington 33
Ludington came in playing very well and having a 11-4 overall record and one game back in the league at 7-1. I thought we played our best defensive game of the season tonight. We adjusted our press to a different style, contested shots, didn't allow drives and rebounded well. We played great defense, especially in the first quarter where we did not allow them a field goal and led 18-2. We ended up winning every quarter. We build our lead in the second outscoring Ludington 11-10, won the third 12-10 and the fourth 15-11. It was a slower pace than we normally play at but showed we can adjust against good teams and gradually build a lead. It was also our 20th straight league win. Mia Clemence led us with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Riley Chase had 11 points and 7 rebounds. Talylor DeKuiper had 9 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Anna Norris had 5 points, both Khaila Norrdyk and Ella Shriver had 4 points and Taylor Johnson had 3 points. We are 14-2, 8-0 in league and we now have a two game lead over Ludington in the league. We play at home on Thursday against Orchard View.
Fremont 73 Grant 54
We took awhile to get going and grant played very well and smart. For the second straight game we did not score in the first 3 minutes, but we eventually heated up. We trailed 21-16 after the 1st quarter as shots just would not fall. The second quarter we won 11-8 but we rushed shots too much. We trailed 29-27 at half but talked about how our style wears on teams and we have been great in the third quarter. We took the lead within 1 minute and kept it the rest of the game. We outscored Grant 24-7 in the third quarter and 22-18 in the fourth. Even when shots are not falling out girls are relentless on defense and rebounding the ball and we keep attacking on offense regardless. Taylor DeKuiper had 24 points, 15 rebounds and 5 steals. Mia Clemence had 22 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Riley Chase had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Khaila Noordyk had 6 points, Ella Shriver had 4 points, Brynna Barnhart had 3 points and both Anna Norris and Breven Powell had 2 points. We are 13-2, 7-0 and we play Ludington at home on Tuesday.
Fremont 66 Montague 27
We were able to survive a cold shooting night with relentless defense and great rebounding. We shot 5-30 from beyond the arc and only 25% overall, but we had 25 offensive rebounds and forced Montague into 30 turnovers. We led 19-6 after the first quarter and then outscored Montague 18-2 in the second quarter. The second half was more of the same as we got a running clock (40 point lead) late in the fourth quarter. Both Mia Clemence and Taylor DeKuiper had huge games again. Mia had 20 points, 13 rebounds and 7 steals. Taylor DeKuiper had 18 points, 17 rebounds and 7 steals. Grace Evans had 8 points, 4 steals and 3 assists. Both Khaila Noordyk and Taylor Johnson had 5 points and both Riley Chase and Anna Norris had 4 points. We are 12-2, 7-0. We play Grant at Newaygo tomorrow at 3pm in the Newaygo County Showcase.
Fremont 80 Morley Stanwood 62
We were able to beat a very disciplined and well coached Morley Stanwood team 80-62. Morley came into the game 9-2. Throughout the game we would build a 5 to 8 point lead, then give it away with turnovers. This happened 3 times in the first half alone and we trailed 36-35 at halftime. We also went into halftime with 4 of our 5 starters in foul trouble. . To start the 3rd we again built a 6 point lead after 2 minutes, but then had 3 straight turnovers they scored on. After a timeout we regrouped and outscored Morley 27-15 for the quarter to take a 62-51 lead into the 4th. In the fourth we build a 80-55 lead with 3 minutes to go, Morley scored the final 7 points to make it 80-62. Taylor DeKuiper had a huge game, especially in the third quarter when she hit 4 triples and scored 15 in the third. She ended the night with 27 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Riley Chase had 14 points, Mia Clemence had 13 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists. Taylor Johnson had 9 points and 5 steals. Ella Shriver had 5 points, 5 steals and 5 assists. Khaila Noordyk had 5 points, Brynna Barnhart had 3 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks and Anna Norris had 3 points. We are 11-2, 6-0 and we play at Montague on Friday.
Fremont 72 Pine River 24
We came into this one anticipating a tough game, as Pine River just beat Beal City, who had beaten the #1 team in D3. It took us awhile to get warmed up after the long drive up North, and we were trailing 12-8 after the first quarter. We had a ton of good looks in the first quarter, we just missed them.....then we got rolling. We outscored Pine River 23-5 in the second quarter and 30-2 in the third quarter. We had multiple girls with huge games. Sophomore Taylor DeKuiper had 21 rebounds, 10 assists and 9 points. In my 23 years coaching varsity I cannot remember a guard playing primarily point guard getting 21 rebounds. Mia Clemence showed why she is on the Ms. Michigan watch list with another strong game of 21 points, 10 rebounds and 8 steals. Riley Chase had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Taylor Johson had 10 points, 6 steals and 6 rebounds. Khaila Noordyk had her best game this season....she has been slowly getting better after ACL surgery. Khaila had 7 points and 7 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring was Ella Shriver with 4, Anna Norris with 3, Arian Tanner with 2 and Brynna Barnhart with 2 points, 5 rebounds and 5 blocks. We are 10-2, 6-0 and have outscored our opponents 149-68 in the last two games.
We broke open a close game which was tied 14-14 after the 1st quarter with a 21-13 second quarter. We kept the pressure and pace up in the second half outsourcing Manistee 41-17 in the second half for the 76-44 win. Taylor DeKuiper scored a career high with 23 points and also had 11 rebounds. Mia Clemence had a huge game getting a triple double of 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals. Riley Chase had 8 points and 5 steals. Every girl for Fremont scored. We are 9-2, 6-0.
Evart did to us exactly what we have been doing to other teams....it was a good lesson for us. They were more physical, rebounded better and was able to score in transition. We played hard, but just not as well as Evart. It is the first game we have been out-rebounded since our opening day loss to Spring Lake. We led 11-9 after the first quarter, but Evart outscored us 17-8 in the second to take a 26-19 lead. The third quarter started poorly for us as Evart scored the first 6 points of the quarter and outscored us 19-8 in the third. It is also the first time we have been outscored in the third quarter since Dec. 4th. Ella Shriver and Mia Clemence had 7 points, Mia also had 14 rebounds. Grace Evans, Khaila Noordyk and Taylor DeKuiper had 5 points, Riley Chase and Taylor Johnson both had 4 points, and Anna Norris had 2 points. We are 8-2, 5-0 and play at Mansistee on Friday at 5:30pm.
We were pretty geared up for this game as Whitehall came in at 6-3 and on a 4 game win streak. We started out by scoring the first 13 points of the game and kept the pressure on throughout the first quarter and led 20-6 at the quarter. the second quarter was also fast paced and we outscored Whitehall 19-15 to take a 39-21 halftime lead. We talked at halftime about keeping the pace high and how it wears teams down in the third quarter and that's what we did, outscoring Whitehall 23-5 in the third. Mia Clemence had another monster game with 34 points, 8 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 assists. Riley chase playerd great wtih 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Taylor Johnson had 11 points and 8 steals and Ella Shriver had 8 steals to go with her 2 points. Overall we created/forced 45 Whitehall turnovers. Rounding out the scoring for Fremont was Taylor DeKuiper with 5 points, Anna Norris with 4, Khaila Noordyk with 4 and both Brynna Barnhart and Ariana Tanner with 1. Grace evans had 5 assists and 3 steals. We are 8-1, 5-0 and play home vs Evart on Tuesday.
Fremont 70 Muskegon Oakridge 17
This one was never close as we took a 27-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. We led 39-10 at the half and 53-17 after three. In the fourth quarter we outscored Oakridge 17-0. All 12 Lady Packers played throughout the game and all 12 scored. Taylor DeKuiper had a career high with 21 points to go with her 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Mia Clemence had another all-around game with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 7 steals and 5 assists. Riley chase had 8 points and 7 steals. Rounding out the scoring was Ella Shriver with 5, Taylor Johnson with 4, Anna Norris with 3, Brynna Barnhart with 3, Esther Vissia with 3, Khaila Noordyk with 3, Grace Evans with 2, Breven Powell with 2 and Ariana Tanner with 2. We are 7-1, 4-0 and we play at home on Friday against Whithall at 5:30pm. Friday will be Parent Night.
Fremont 67 Orchard View 33
We jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back. We led 19-10 after the first quarter, 33-16 at halftime, 49-22 after three quarters. All 12 Fremont players played and all 12 Fremont players scored. Riley Chase led us with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Taylor DeKuiper had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists. Mia Clemence had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 7 steals and 7 assists. Also scoring for Fremont was Taylor Johnson with 7 points, Breven Powell with 5 points, Ava Krohn with 4 points, Ariana Tanner with 4 points, Anna Norris with 4 points, Brynna Barnhart with 4 points, Grace Evans with 2 points, Ella Shriver with 2 points and Esther Vissia with 2 points. That was our 6th straight win and our 15th straight league win. We are 6-1, 3-0 and we play Oakridge on Tuesday at home.
Fremont 71 Mason County Central 47
Mia Clemence had a career night in the blowout win setting a school record for points with 40 points. She added 10 rebounds and 4 assists. MCC lead after the first quarter but after that it was all Fremont as our pressure defense and pace work down MCC. Clemence scored 10 in the first quarter, 16 in the second, 6 in the third and 8 in the fourth. Taylor DeKuiper had 8 points, 8 steals and 7 assists. Brynna Barnhart had 7 points and 7 rebounds. We are 5-1, 2-0 and play at Orchard View on Friday.
Fremont 68 Montague 23
We were really geared up for this game as Montague came in undefeated at 4-0. Its our second straight win vs. an undefeated team. We got off to a great start leading 14-1 after the first quarter and limiting Montague to few shots. Riley Chase had a hot hand with 2 triples in the first. In the second quarter we continued to pressure full court and we were up 22-1 mid second quarter before Montague scored a bucket. Riley Chase stayed hot and had 9 more in the second and 15 in the first half. We came out even more fired up in the third quarter and got a running clock(40 point lead) with about 3 minutes left in the third quarter. We outscored Montague 25-7 in the third. Taylor DeKuiper had 9 in the third. The fourth was 12-5 us with a running clock to bring the final score to 68-23. I'm really proud of how hard our girls work. Their rotations on defense were fantastic and the pace of the game was in our favor. Mia Clemence absolutely dominated the game on defense and as our point guard on offense, making read after read that helped us. She ended with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Riley Chase had a career high 22 points to go with her 7 steals and was everywhere on defense. Taylor DeKuiper had another incredible all-around game and continues to prove she is the best sophomore in the entire area. She had a career high 19 points, 11 rebounds, 7 steals and 6 assists. Taylor TJ Johnson had a career high 12 points, Ella Shriver had 4 points, Anna Norris had 3 points and Araian Tanner had 1. We are 4-1, 2-0
Fremont 53 Hart 52
We were able to withstand a late Hart comback and secure a 53-52 win over a very talented and experienced Hart team. Mia Clemence had a monster game with 25 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. Riley Chase had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Taylor DeKuiper had 7 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Taylor Johnson had 6 points, Grace Evans had 2, Brynna Barnhart 2 and Ella Shriver 1. Hart led 11-6 after the first quarter but we regrouped and took a 22-19 lead before Hart hit a 3 to tie it going into halftime. In the third quarter we started to run our offense better and had a 9 point lead before Hart again hit a 3 late and we led 39-33 after 3. We built our lead up to 11 mid-fourth, but Hart made a run late to get it close. Mia Clemence hit 2 free throws with 9 seconds left to put us up 4. Avvie Hovie hit a 3 late to make the final score Fremont 53 Hart 52. I'm really proud of our girls and how they handled such a physical game. We are 3-1, 1-0 and play next Friday at home vs. Montague.
Fremont 59 Ludington 43
We traveled to Ludington for our third straight road game to begin the season and secured a huge conference win against a very good Ludington team, 59-43. It was back and forth early with us leading by 4 mid second quarter then Ludington reeled off 6 straight points. We called timeout with 2:30 to go in the second quarter, adjusted and scored the final 7 points of the half to take a 27-22 halftime lead. We never trailed again. We quickly bumped up the lead by 10 points mid third and entered the 4th up 52-31. Two minutes into the third quarter we were up 21 points. I believe the lead never came under 15 after that. Riley Chase led us with a career high 19 points and 5 steals. Mia Clemence continued her strong play with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Talylor DeKuiper had 13 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists. Brynna Barnhart had 4 points, Grace Evens 3 points and Taylor Johnson 2 points. We are 2-1, 1-0 and play at home vs Hart on Friday.
Fremont 53 Sparta 12
We were able to secure our first win of the season at Sparta with a 53-12 win. We led 11-2 after the first quarter then opened things up with a 19-4 second quarter to lead 30-6 at halftime. Part way into the 4th quarter there was a running clock and we ended up winning 53-12. It was a balanced scoring attack for us with Mia Clemence leading us with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Riley Chase had 9 points and 7 rebounds, Taylor Johnson had 7 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Brynna Marnhart had 8 points 7 rebounds on her birthday. Taylor DeKuiper continued to excel in all areas of the game with 7 rebounds, 6 steals and 6 points. Grace Evans and Anna Norris both had 3 points and Ella Shriver had 2 points and 5 assists. We are 1-1 overall and play at Ludington Tuesday.
Spring Lake 41 Fremont 37
We played a very scrappy and competitive game on the road against a much bigger and very talented Spring Lake team, but came up just short. The game was tight throughout and back and forth, but Gabrielle Wrona from Spring Lake hit two three point shots later in the fourth to give spring lake a 9pt lead. We battled back and it was a 3pt game after Mia Clemence hit one of her 6 three point shots with 10 seconds to go. We had to foul and Spring Lake made one of two free throws to get the lead to 4. We gave up 3 to 4 inches at almost every position but battled hard, rebounded well and had our chances. The story of the game for us is we only made 8 of 20 free throws. Mia Clemence led us with a career high 22 points and 9 rebounds. Riley Chase had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Taylor DeKuiper had 4 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists. Taylor Johnson had 7 rebounds and 5 steals. We play at Sparta on Friday at 5:30pm as the first game of a girls/boys varsity double header.
