Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Orchard View High School

We traveled to Orchard View today and struggled right out of the gates getting down 25-12 after the first quarter. They displayed far more energy than us early on getting to the basket at will. Our goal was to keep Ke"ontae Barnes out of the paint but he got in at will on drives and also in transition. The second quarter wasn't much better as we were down 50-29 at half. Orchard view then scored the first 7 points of the 3rd quarter putting us down 28 points, 57-29. At that point we showed some fight and went on a run cutting the lead down to 12 and drawing a time-out, but we could get no closer. Bottom line is they were able to run out in transition much better than us and also shot better from range, making 11 3pt shots. We fought hard but could never get close enough in the second half to make it a game. Braiden McDonald led us with 29 points and had 8 rebounds. Joshua Zerfas had 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. On a positive note 9 of our 10 players ended up scoring at least one basket. Orchard View is very good and well coached, its important for us to play teams like this so we can continue to improve. We are 1-2, 1-1.
Boys JV Basketball vs. Big Rapids High School

Lose: -
The JV boys struggled in their first game of the season losing to Big Rapids. The lack of practice time really showed as Fremont could not get into any kind of rhythm on the offensive end, and defensively they missed assignments and struggled to secure rebounds. The Cardinals were the more physical, aggressive team and took control of the game in the second half. Chaz Miller led the Packers with 10 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Fremont's next game is at Newaygo on Thursday.
