Win: 57 - 55
It was a very special night for our team and our program. I am so proud of how hard our team competed and fought. We played one of our best games of the season against a very good Sparta team. Everyone contributed and it was truly a great team win. Jordon McDonald led the way, even though he was in foul trouble, and finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the tournament. Gavin Richards also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Chaz Miller played great on both ends of the floor and finished with 8 points and 8 assists. Will DeBlake made some big shots and two big free throws down the stretch, and finished with 9 points and 4 rebounds. Ben Mellema also made some big shots and added 9 points and 2 steals. This was a great night and a memory that this team will have forever.

Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Grant High School

Win: 54 - 49
It was a back and forth contest for sure. We jumped out to a 9 point lead in the first half, but Grant made a run in the second quarter and took a two point lead into halftime. We fell behind by as many as eight in the fourth quarter but battled back for a hard fought victory. We definitely had a lot of nervous energy in the first half which resulted in a lot of turnovers. We were able to settle down in the second half and played much better. Grant hit some tough shots, but Jordon McDonald took over the game and just would not let us lose. He ended up with 25 points and a season high 20 rebounds. We had other guys who also stepped up and made winning plays. Chaz Miller hit a couple of big three's and made three clutch free throws, part of his18 point night. Ben Mellema also made two big free throws down the stretch. Gavin Richards had a huge offensive rebound on a missed free throw and had a big steal late in the game. We didn't play our best game, but I'm proud of the kids for battling and finding a way to win! We play in the district final on Friday at 7:00 at Comstock Park.

Win: 55 - 40
Congratulations to Jordon McDonald on scoring his 1000th point Thursday night! Jordon is going to average over 20 points per game for the second year in a row, and he will go down as one of the best players to put on a uniform for Fremont. We won the game thanks in part to Jordon's 26 points. He was 12 for 15 from the field and also added 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Chaz Miller had 8 points, 9 assists and 3 steals and Gavin Richards had a good game with 8 points and 8 rebounds.

I thought we played really hard and competed against a very good team. We gave up way too many offensive rebounds, which is something we've been working on, but we still need to be much better in that area. Jordon McDonald had his second great game in a row with 29 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals. Chaz Miller played very well also with 7 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Gavin Richards added 6 points and 10 rebounds.

We finished the season with a .500 record of 11 wins and 11 losses. We played a very tough schedule this year and the boys worked hard and have improved a lot. We now look forward the the district tournament starting next week.

The story of the game was shooting. N. Muskegon shot the lights out in the second half and we struggled at times to make shots, especially from the outside. We got some good looks against their zone, but just didn't make enough to win. Jordon McDonald had 12 points and Chaz Miller had 11.

I thought we played much harder than we have the last couple of games. Second half turnovers ended up costing us but I was pleased with the effort. Chaz Miller had 21 points to lead the team. He also had 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Jordon Mcdonald had 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals. Gavin Richards had 10 points and Will DeBlake added 8 points.

For the second game in a row we struggled to make shots. We missed lay ups, free throws, jump shots, you name it. We shot only 30% from the field and we were 6 for 23 from the free throw line. We did not come out with great focus or energy and fell behind early. We were able to fight back and take a one point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but ultimately just could not make enough shots to win the game. Jordon McDonald finished with 26 points and 9 rebounds.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Ludington Area Schools

We came up short against a very good Ludington team who have only lost one game all season. We battled and kept the game close for the first 2 quarters and had the lead down to seven in the third before Ludington was able to pull away. We did a great job of handling their press this time around, but we just didn't shoot the ball well enough to beat a team of that caliber. I'm proud of how the boys battled and we have a lot of positives that we can take from this game. Chaz Miller led the team with 14 points. Jordon McDonald added 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Win: 65 - 56
Grant came out strong in the first quarter and took a seven point lead, but we battled back to cut the lead to one by the end of the quarter. I thought we played some of our best basketball this year in the second and third quarters, and were up seventeen heading into the fourth. We got a little sloppy in the fourth quarter, and Grant was able to make a run to pull within seven points. To our kids credit, we were able to keep them at bay to earn a good road win. Jordon McDonald led the way with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Gavin Richards had 12 points and 9 rebounds. Chaz Miller stuffed the stat sheet again with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. I thought we played with great effort again which has been the key to our recent success. The win is our fourth in a row and improves our record to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference. We play Ludington home on Friday.

Win: 69 - 42
I thought we played with good effort again. We didn't execute defensively as well as we have been, but overall there are a lot of positives to build on. We shot the ball well for the second game in a row. Credit the kids for working hard on their shooting over the past few weeks. Jordon McDonald led us with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. He also had two big dunks which got everyone in the gym excited! Gavin Richards had another good game with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Chaz Miller filled the stat sheet with 9 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. The win is our third in a row and improves our record to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference. Our next game is Tuesday at Grant.

Win: 72 - 61
We earned a hard fought win against a good Mason County Central team on the road Monday. It was a back and forth contest with MCC jumping out to an eight point lead in the first quarter. We showed a lot of mental toughness by fighting back in the second quarter to take a 10 point lead into the half. We were able to hold off a couple of runs by them in the second half and made 13 out of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter to ice the game. Four out of our five starters finished in double figures led by Jordon Mcdonald with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Chaz Miller had a great game for us with 20 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Gavin Richards continues to play well, finishing with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Will DeBlake had 10 points and 4 assists and Ben Mellema finished with 6 points and 6 rebounds. I'm really proud of how the boys are starting to come together as a team as we continue to improve. The win improves our record to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference. We play home on Thursday against Ravenna.

Win: 64 - 35
We came out really strong on the defensive end holding them to only 3 points in the first quarter. I thought we took better care of the ball and rebounded much better than we have been. That will continue to be our focus moving forward. If we can do those two things, we are going to be in good shape. We had a lot of guys who played well and it was a good team win. Jordon McDonald had a team high 15 points. He also had 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Chaz Miller had a great all around game with 10 points, 7 assists, 4 steals and 4 rebounds. Gavin Richards has been Mr. Consistent for us this year, and that continued with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Will DeBlake also had a good game with 5 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. I thought our bench played their best game of the year. They scored 18 points, led by Andrew Steger and Nate Vincent with 6 points each. The win improves our record to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

We played hard but they made a lot of tough shots and dominated us on the glass. We will look to keep working on our rebounding and our shooting going forward. Chaz Miller led the team with 16 points and Jordon McDonald added 12.

The Fremont boys varsity team won their 2nd game in a row with a 68-41 victory over Tri-County on Tuesday night. We came out with a lot of energy and got off to a great start especially on the defensive end. The last three quarters we weren't very consistent with our focus and execution but we still have a lot of positives to take from this game. We are improving, and starting to understand what it's going to take to win ball games. We are definitely heading in the right direction, and I'm proud of the kids for how hard they are working. Jordon McDonald led the way for the Packers with 20 points, 7 steals, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Chaz Miller had another good game with his first double-double of the season. He finished with 11 points, 10 assists and 4 steals. Gavin Richards had 8 points, 3 assists, and led the team with 12 rebounds. Ben Mellema added 12 points. The win improves Fremont's record to 3-2 on the season. We play at Montague on Friday night.

Win: 64 - 56
The Fremont varsity boys won a tightly contested contest at Oakridge on Tuesday night. We played with much better effort and it was a great team win on the road. Hopefully we can build on this and continue to get better. Oakridge was up one point after the first quarter 14-13, and Fremont was up one point at halftime 27-26. The Packers still held a one point advantage after three quarters 41-40. Oakridge took the lead early in the fourth by as many as six, but Fremont showed a lot of fight to come back and regain the lead. The Packers iced the game at the free throw line down the stretch making their last six. Jordon McDonald led all scorers with 27 points. He also had 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Gavin Richards also had a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 steals. Chaz Miller had his best game of the year with 18 points, including 4 three pointers, and 5 assists. Ben Mellema made some big plays down the stretch for us, and finished with 5 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. The win improves the Packers record to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference. We will play at Fruitport on Thursday.

Fremont got off to a slow start in the first quarter and could never get back into the game. Big Rapids played harder and deserved to win the game. The effort and focus was not where it needs to be, and we will look to correct that in practice this week. Jordon McDonald finished with 18 points and 4 steals for Fremont.

Fremont varsity boys lost to a good Ludington team on the road Friday night. We played really hard, but our youth and inexperience showed throughout the game with turnovers created by the Ludington pressure. I was proud of how the team stuck together and battled. I feel like we learned a lot from this game, and we will continue to work hard and improve. Jordon McDonald led the Packers with 25 points.

Win: 53 - 33
Fremont varsity boys started the season with a win on Tuesday night vs Shelby. The first half was a little sloppy for both teams, which is typical for the first game of the year. Fremont led 12-6 after the first quarter and 26-14 at the half. The Packers finally found a little more rythym in the second half and pulled away for the victory. Jordon McDonald led all scorers with 25 points. He also added 12 rebounds, 3 steals and 5 blocks. Gavin Richards had 4 points and 13 rebounds, and Chaz Miller helped out with 4 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Fremont travels to Ludington on Friday for their first conference game of the year.
