We got off to a great start but unfortunately could not sustain it. After the first quarter, we struggled to make shots and had too many turnovers to overcome. I was very proud of how hard our boys played. They competed and represented our program with class. Thank you to all of our players for the work they put in this year. A special thank you to our seniors for the last four years. They were great examples to our underclassman and showed them what it means to be a Packer.

We played with great energy and effort especially on the defensive end. I was very proud of the boys for how hard they played. I thought everyone was locked in and focused. We moved the ball well on offense and we were able to knock some shots down. We got a lot of contributions up and down the lineup. Jordon McDonald led the way with 24 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals. Joey DeLong had 16 points and 2 steals. Logan Nelson filled the stat sheet with 4 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Blake Hanshue added 9 points and Elijah Shears had 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals off the bench.

Reed City played very hard and it was a physical game which definitely favored them.  We made too many early mistakes defensively and didn't have enough guys who competed the way we need to to beat a good team like that on the road.

Win: 76 - 41
Fremont varsity boys beat Chip Hills on Wednesday night.  We played with great effort and did some good things on both ends of the court.  Jordon McDonald led the way with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals.  Logan Nelson also had a good game with 12 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.  Chaz Miller added 13 points, 4 steals and 3 assists.  The win improves our overall record to 13-6 and our conference record to 11-2.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Tri-County High School

Win: 62 - 39
Fremont varsity boys beat Tri-County on Friday on senior night.  We played great defense, especially in the second half, and because of that we were able to get our transition game going.  This was a good bounce back game for us after a disappointing loss on Tuesday.  I was proud of our guys for responding the way they did.  I was very happy that all of our seniors were able to play and score in their last home game.   Joey DeLong led us with 19 points, 5 steals and 5 rebounds.  Logan Nelson had 6 points and 4 assists.  Chase Rasmussen added 4 points and Blake Hanshue and Tegan Reichert Slater both had 2 points.  Eli Shears came off the bench to score 10 points.

Lose: 50 - 60
Fremont boys varsity lost to Grant on Tuesday.  We struggled again to make shots and just couldn't get into any rhythm on offense.  We came out flat in the first quarter on both ends and fell behind by ten, and it was an uphill battle the rest of the way.  We couldn't put any type of run together to get back into the game.  Logan Nelson had a good all around game with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Newaygo High School

Win: 50 - 45
Fremont won a low scoring defensive battle in Newaygo on Friday night.  I thought our defense was really good all night long and carried us on a night when we struggled shooting the ball.  We moved the ball well and our shot selection was good, but the shots just were not falling.  We had a few missing due to injury and illness, but our guys stepped up and battled hard.  We knew this was going to be a tough game.  Fremont and Newaygo games are usually very competitive and this was no exception.  Jordon McDonald led the way for the Packers with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Joey DeLong had a good all around game with 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.  Gavin Richards added 8 points and 5 rebounds.  The win improves our record to 11-5 overall and 9-1 in the conference.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Central Montcalm High School

Win: 61 - 54
Fremont varsity boys earned a hard fought win against a much improved Central Montcalm team on Friday night.  We played well offensively in the first half, but we were very undisciplined on the defensive end, giving up way too many easy baskets.  We were better defensively in the second half, but we still have a lot of improving to do on that end.  I thought we played hard, just not very smart at times.  We had a couple of opportunities to build a big lead, but to their credit Central Montcalm kept coming back, and we were never able to really put them away.  Jordon McDonald had a big game tying a season high with 31 points.  He also had 9 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 assists.  Joey DeLong came back off of an injury and played well with 12 points, 2 steals and 3 assists.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Orchard View High School

Win: 64 - 51
The Packer varsity boys won on Tuesday against a very dangerous Orchard View team.  We were missing a couple of kids from our rotation due to injury, but had others step up big in their absence.  We played well in the first quarter and did a good job of executing our game plan.  In the second quarter we got a little sloppy and started forcing some shots and turning the ball over.  We played much better in the second half as we started to get the ball into the post, and did a better job of limiting our turnovers.  Jordon McDonald played really well again, finishing with a game high 28 points while also grabbing 8 rebounds.  Sophomore Gavin Richards had his best game of the year and finished with an impressive double-double, 16 points and 18 rebounds.  Carl Vliem stepped into the rotation and came up big for us with 12 points and 4 rebounds.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Big Rapids High School

Win: 57 - 54
Fremont boys varsity won a big conference game on Friday in Big Rapids in a back and forth, very competitive contest.  We started slow and fell behind by six after one quarter, but outscored Big Rapids by 12 in the second to take a six point lead to halftime.  We started strong in the third and built an eleven point lead, but the Cardinals came right back with an 11-0 run to tie the game.  The fourth quarter was back and forth with both teams making big plays.  With less than a minute left and down by one, Blake Hanshue dug out a loose ball and found Jordon McDonald who made a tough shot in traffic to put us ahead.  Logan Nelson iced the game with two clutch free throws.  This was a big win for our kids.  Big Rapids is always a tough place to play, and they are a very good team.  Jordon McDonald had another big game with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals.  Our two senior guards made big plays for us on both ends.  Logan Nelson finished with 11 points and 2 steals, and Joey DeLong added 9 points and 4 rebounds.  Gavin Richards also chipped in with 7 points and 6 rebounds.  With the win, our record improves to 8-5 overall and 7-1 in the conference.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Montague High School

Fremont boys varsity lost in Montague on Monday night. We came out extremely flat and didn't play with great effort or focus for the first time in quite a while. Montague was on fire from three point range all night and we struggled mightily to make shots and had way too many careless turnovers. Montague played harder than we did and they deserved to win. Jordon McDonald had 28 points and Joey DeLong had 10 points for Fremont.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Reed City High School

Win: 66 - 51
Great effort on the defensive end was the key to the victory for us.  We came out and played extremely hard from start to finish and were able to beat a very good Reed City team.  I am very proud of the kids and the effort they put forth.  Jordon McDonald had a big game with 26 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks.  Joey DeLong also had a good game with 15 points and 6 rebounds.  He was also 7 for 8 from the free throw line.  Logan Nelson had a great all around game with 7 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists and Elijah Shears came up big off the bench with 10 points and 2 steals.  We have now won 5 games in a row and improve to 7-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference.

Win: 70 - 25
Fremont varsity boys notched their fourth win in a row on Tuesday against Chippewa Hills.  After starting cold from the field, our ball movement improved and we started knocking down open shots in the second and third quarter to pull away.  It was a good team win for us.  Jordon McDonald led the way with 17 points and 2 steals.  Blake Hanshue returned in a big way with 15 points and 4 rebounds.  Gavin Richards had 11 points and 5 rebounds and Logan Nelson added 7 assists and 7 rebounds.  The win improves the Packers record to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Fremont varsity boys won Friday night in Tri County.  The Vikings played hard and made it tough for us, but we were able to put together a couple of runs in the second and third quarter to pull away for the victory.  Jordon McDonald led all scorers with 23 points.  He also had 6 rebounds and 4 steals.  Joey DeLong had a very good game as well with 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals.  Logan Nelson added 8 assists and Gavin Richards chipped in with 9 points.  Our record improves to 5-4 (4-1) on the season.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Grant High School

Win: 71 - 64
Fremont varsity boys won a tough game in Grant on Tuesday. Grant came out hot in the first half and the Packers were playing from behind most of the night. Our kids kept fighting and we were able to take the lead late in the fourth and hold on for the hard fought victory. Jordon McDonald led the way for us with a season high 31 points. He also had 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists and played every minute of the game. Logan Nelson also came up big for us with 10 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Gavin Richards and Chaz Miller, our two sophomores,  played important minutes down the stretch and both made key plays. Richards finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Miller had 9 points and 3 rebounds. The win moves Fremont to 4-4 on the season and 3-1 in the conference.

The Fremont varsity boys had a great team win against Newaygo on Friday night.  Everyone contributed and we played with great energy especially on the defensive end.  We got off to a tremendous start, leading 22-2 after the first quarter, and we were able to hang on for the win against a good Newaygo team.  Logan Nelson had his best game of the year with 13 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals.  Blake Hanshue also had his best game with a team high 15 points, 9 rebounds and 2 steals.  Joey DeLong had 12 points, 3 assists and 4 steals and despite being in foul trouble, Jordon McDonald helped with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Ludington High School

Lose: 51 - 77
The varsity boys lost to a very good Ludington team on Tuesday night. We competed hard and kept it close in the first half but a big third quarter run by the Orioles was too much to overcome. Jordon McDonald led Fremont with 18 points.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Sparta Senior High School

Lose: 51 - 61
Fremont varsity boys battled hard but came up short against a good Sparta team on Tuesday night.  The story of the game was shooting.  Sparta shot the ball well from outside all night and Fremont struggled to make shots.  The effort was good and kept us in the game but unfortunately it was not enough on this night.  Jordon McDonald had another strong game for the Packers with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Central Montcalm High School

Win: 66 - 24
Fremont varsity boys defeated Central Montcalm on Friday with a great all around team win.  Our energy and effort were great right from the start of the game.  We defended and rebounded at a high level all night and showed the kind of team we can be.  Logan Nelson had his best all around game of the year with 8 points, 4 assists and 5 steals.  He also showed great leadership with his communication on both ends.  Jordon McDonald had 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 blocks.  Chaz Miller added 5 points, 5 assists and 4 steals in his first varsity game.  Everyone who played, played the right way, with great effort and intensity.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Whitehall High School

Lose: 48 - 63
Fremont varsity boys lost to Whitehall on Tuesday.  Whitehall shot the ball really well, especially in the first half, as the Packers found themselves down 17 at halftime.  Fremont made a run in the third and cut the lead to eight but ultimately could not make enough shots against Whitehall's zone.  Jordon McDonald led the way with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals.  Gavin Richards had another strong game with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Big Rapids High School

Lose: 60 - 62
Fremont varsity boys lost a heartbreaker on Friday night in overtime to Big Rapids.  Our kids played extremely hard but just came up a little short.  The game was close throughout with many lead changes and momentum swings.  Blake Hanshue hit a three pointer with 3 seconds left in regulation to tie the game.  In overtime, Fremont jumped out to a four point lead but the momentum changed after Jordon McDonald fouled out.  Turnovers were an issue all game for the Packers, but we took a step in the right direction and will look to fix the mistakes that we made and continue to improve as a team.  Jordon McDonald led Fremont with 23 points and 3 steals.  Gavin Richards also chipped in with 6 points and 8 rebounds.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Shelby High School
3.0 years ago | Adam Bowen
Win: 54 - 47
Fremont varsity boys started their season with a hard fought win against Shelby on Tuesday.  Even though the Tigers were shorthanded, they played extremely hard and outworked the Packers for most of the game.  Bishop Lee for Shelby had a great game and was the best player on the floor, finishing with 24 points and 11 offensive rebounds.  After being tied at halftime and at the end of the third quarter, the Packers were able to put a run together in the fourth quarter to pull away and win by 7.  Joey DeLong had a very good game for Fremont finishing with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals.  Logan Nelson had 8 points, 7 assists and 2 steals and Eli Shears added 8 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals off the bench.  The Packers play Big Rapids at home on Friday and will look for a better showing as a team.
