Boys Varsity Basketball vs. OPEN DATE

Win: 65 - 52
Fremont 65 Coopersville 52 We were able to beat a very good and much bigger Coopersville team 65-52 tonight behind a very strong defensive effort and team rebounding. We led 11-2 forcing a timeout early and 18-6 after one quarter. The second quarter they outscored us 13-12 after a few silly fouls on our part but we still let 30-19 at halftime. After Coopersville scored the first 4 points of the second half we regrouped and led 43-33 heading into the 4th. They cut the lead down to 7 a few times but each time we had an answer. They were pressing hard and double teaming but we were able to find the open man and score in transition often in the 4th. When we did not score in transition I thought we ran a very patient and efficient offense which made it hard for Coopersville to come back. Braiden McDonald led us with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Tirstan Campbell had 11 points and 9 rebounds, Chris Kennedy had 11 points, Joshua Zerfas had 9 assists to go with his 4 points and Carter Moon had another all around game with 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 points. Martin Curiel gave us a big boost of the bench with 8 points. We are 17-5 and play Comstock Park in the finals at 7 Friday. They are the team that beat us last year in districts in overtime when we led by 7 with 2 minutes to go in regulation but couldn't close.

Win: 93 - 70
Fremont 93 Grant 70. At Grant we were able to avenge a loss in the regular season Final on Tuesday and move on to the second round of districts with a 93-70 win over Grant. We came out hot with Joshua Zerfas hitting 3 triples and Tristan Campbell scoring 8 and Braiden McDonald 6 in the first quarter, which staked us to a 23-20 lead. In the second Grant outscored us 23-22 in a back and forth game that saw us take a 45-43 halftime lead. We stayed hot in the 3rd outscoring Grant 24-10 behind Tristan Campbells 12 points and Braiden McDonalds 8. In the 4th we bumped it up over 20 and had an 18 to 25 point lead most of the 4th quarter. Carter Moon and Chris Kennedy were terrific on defense tonight playing tight on Carter Chase and Seth Schuitema all night with little rest. I thought if we could keep Schuitema/Chase, who are both very talented, under 40 combined we would win and they got 24 total. I did not expect Burrows to hit 7 triples, credit to him for his hot shooting. On our end Braiden McDonald was a force with 29 points and Tristan Campbell had 28 points with 10 rebounds. Joshua Zerfas who only missed a triple double last Tuesday against Grant by 3 rebounds, had 15 points, 12 assists and 5 rebounds and played great help defense all night. We play Coopersville at 5:30 Wednesday at Grant. We are 16-5 overall.

Lose: 77 - 85
Grant 85 Fremont 77 Grant earned a share of the conference championship with Central Montcalm ending our quest for three straight conference championships. For the second time against grant we started very slow, down 11-2 this time and down 14-1 last time. Both games we ended up leading at the end of the first quarter, this game 12-11. The second quarter we scored 22 but gave up 30. Every time we made a defensive mistake or didn't rotate, grant took advantage. We made runs throughout the game but never executed well enough on defense to win the game. We scored 77 points, hit 10 triples and put 5 different players in double figures, but if we are going to win on Monday, also against Grant and at Grant, we must play better defense. Braiden McDonald led us with 24 points, Tristan Campbell had 12 points and 5 blocked shots, Joshua Zerfas had 11 points and 7 assists, Chris Kennedy had 11 points and 5 steals and Martin Curiel had 11 points. We end the regular season 15-5, 11-3.

Win: 78 - 41
Fremont 78 Tri-County 41 This one was not close from the beginning as we came out with great focus and energy. Everyone got lots of playing time in both halfs of this game. Our starters only played 11 minutes in the game and had a running clock(40 point lead) with 3 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter(70-30). We led 33-16 after the first and 57-25 at halftime. 11 packers scored led by Braiden McDonald with 18, Martin Curiel with 14, Chris Kennedy with 12, Tristan Campbell with 11, Joshua Zerfas and Carter Moon both had 5, Jacob Visser had 2 and Lane Converse, Jaxx Miller and Adam Ward all had 2. Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Newaygo High School

| Pete Zerfas
Win: 71 - 60
We were able to come away with a road win at Newaygo to stay tied atop of the conference with Central Montcalm and Grant at 9-2. It was a hard fought win. Newaygo got out in transition well in the first quarter scoring all 11 of its baskets in the paint. They led 22-18. We switched defenses and did a much better job in the second quarter outscoring them 17-5 to take a 35-27 lead into halftime. The third quarter we increased the lead up to double didgets, but Newaygo scored a few at the end of the quarter and we led 51-40 going into the last quarter. Newaygo scored a quick bucket in the 4th but we were able to get the lead back up to 16 at one point. They made a run down to 8 but then two quick Braiden McDonald buckets put it back up to double digits where it stayed the rest of the quarter. We definatly have to clean a few things up defensively and rebounding, but its always good to get a win at Newaygo. Braiden McDonald had a monster night with a career high 36 points to go with 10 rebounds. Tristan Campbell had another double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Martin Curiel gave us a huge boost off the bench with 9 points, Chris Kennedy had 7 points, Carter Moon had 5 points and Joshua Zerfas had 4 points and 8 assists. We are 13-4, 9-2 and play a huge league game at Grant on Friday.

Lose: 59 - 65
Cold shooting plagued us and we dropped a league game to Central Montcalm 65-59. We we not able to make many shots shooting 7-35 from the 3pt line and only 32% overall. Central montcalm did a good job getting the ball down low as the 6'8 center had 35 points and their 6'5 power forward 15 points. We trailed by 5 at halftime but.we were getting great shots, just not connecting. The second half was the same way. Tristan Campbell had 15 points and 16 rebounds, Brandon McDonald had 12 points and Chris Kennedy had 12 points. We are tied for first at 8-2 with Central Montcalm and Grant and we are 12-4 overall.

Win: 81 - 68
We were able to break out of a week long slump by beating a very good Kent City team on the road 81-68. Our energy and effort were better right from the start tonight than it had been the last two games. We led after the first quarter 26-16 on the strength of Chris Kennedy's four 3 pointers and 12 points. In the second quarter we extended the lead to 43-30 behind Joshua Zerfas' 10 second quarter points. In the third it was Braiden McDonalds turn to have a big quarter as he scored 11 points and we were able to extend out lead to 65-49 heading into the 4th. A few times in the second half we got the lead to 20 points but Kent City is very good and was able to get it down to 9 with 4 minutes to go. The next possession Zerfas hit a 3pt shot and we stayed above a 10 point lead the rest of the way. Chris Kennedy led us with 19 points and had 5 rebounds. Joshua Zerfas had his best game this season with a career high 18 points to go with 6 assists and 5 steals. Braiden McDonald had 17 points and 6 rebounds and Tristan Campbell had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Lane Converse gave us great energy, defense and scoring off the bench with 6 points and 3 steals and Martin Curiel also contributed with 5 points off the bench. Jaxx Miller getting his first start of the season was everywhere on defense and played well. We play at Central Montcalm on Friday. We are now 12-3, 8-1

Lose: 50 - 60
We lost at Big Rapids ending our 20 game league winning streak and putting us at 11-3, 8-1. It was also the first time we have lost back to back games in three years. We led 15-11 after the first quarter and 27-24 at halftime. We started the second half with the ball but the story of the second half is we did not execute our plays or defense. We always had one or two people out of position and Big Rapids capitalized on that. They were far more physical and energetic in the second half and led 41-38 after 3 quarters. We kept the game close in the 4th though we missed many wide open 3pt shots and at least 4 lay-ups in the 4th alone. With 1:30 to go we had the ball and we were only down 55-50, but we failed to get any closer. Chris Kennedy led us in scoring with 21 points, Braiden McDonald had 11 points. Next week we travel to Kent City on Tuesday and Central Montcalm on Friday.
Boys Varsity Basketball vs. Orchard View High School

Lose: 60 - 63
We lost in very frustrating fashion tonight in overtime 63-60 when Keonte Barnes his a 35 foot shot at the buzzer to win. We had the ball with 12 seconds to go and called timeout. With 7 seconds to go we got the match-up and play we wanted with Braiden McDonald at the top. He attacked to the basket but had his legs taken out by a player coming over to help, knocking him to the ground. McDonald lost the ball as he was knocked to the ground, there was no call, they passed up to Barnes who hit the long shot to win. Its very hard to ref a game in real time, but this one was obvious. The video clearly shows his legs getting taken out 20 feet from the basket as the help defender rushes towards him and takes out his legs knocking him down. Orchard View played extremely well and ended out 17 game home winning streak dating back for over 2 years. Orchard View scored the first 4 points of the game, we regrouped and tied it 10-10 after one. OV led 24-19 at half and 38-32 at the end of 3. We were down 12 with 4 minutes to go but stormed back forcing overtime. In overtime we led by 2 twice but barnes scored both times to get it back to a tie game. Barnes ended with 30 points. Braiden McDonald had 26 points, Carter Moon had 13 points and Joshua Zerfas had 9 points. We are 11-2, 8-0 and travel to Big Rapids on Friday.

Win: 58 - 34
We started out the game with a 3pt make from Joshua Zerfas, and though it was close for about 10 minutes, we never trailed after that start. We led 10-6 after one and 26-14 at halftime. The beginning of the third quarter was as good as we have played in awhile scoring the first 10 points of the second half. We were able to build a lead up to 45-24 after the third quarter and 56-26 lead with 5 minutes to go. We had another balanced scoring attach led by Braiden McDonald with 17, Tristan Campbell had 12 points and 12 rebounds, Chris Kennedy had 12 points and Carter Moon had another good all around game with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. We are 11-1, 8-0. We host Orchard View on Tuesday.

Lose: 66 - 68
Whitehall 68 Fremont 66
We lost our first game of the season at Whitehall 68-66. We struggled with our press allowing them to dribble through traps and not rotating which led to dribble penetration for whitehall and passes down low to their 6'7 and 6'8 centers. Our #1 goal coming into the game was to not allow them into the paint off the dribble and we did not do that very well. We were able to lead 15-12 after one quarter and 34-31 at the end of the first half despite have bad foul trouble. Carter Moon and Braiden McDonald both scored 12 in the first half. Whitehall tied up the game at the end of 3 quarters 46-46. The fourth saw us get behind by 6 and we lost Braiden McDonald with 3 mintues to go when he fouled out. We were able to get a few steals, make a few shots and get the ball back with 10 seconds to go down 1 but we were unable to get a shot off. Chris Kennedy had a great second half scoring 14 of his 17 in the second half including 11 in the fourth quarter. For the game both Chris Kennedy and Carter Moon had 17 points, Braiden McDonald had 15 points and Joshua Zerfas had 11 points. We are 10-1, 7-0 on the season and play Reed City at home on Friday.

At halftime we led 52-13 and our reserves played the entire second half. Martin Curiel led us with 20 points, Braiden McDonald had 17 and Carter Moos, Chris Kennedy and Joshua Zerfas had 6, 6 and 5 respectively. That was our 20th straight league win. We are 10-0, 7-0. Fremont 102 Tri-County 58.....The first quarter was close with us leading 18-14, but then we were able to break out of a week long shooting slump by scoring 41 points in the second quarter and taking a 59-35 lead into halftime. Chris Kennedy hit 5 triples and Braiden McDonald scored 14 points all in the second quarter, including two thunderous dunks. Tristan Campbell also had a huge dunk as part of his 10 first half points. Braiden McDonald had another dunk off from an all-oop pass from Joshua Zerfas to begin the third and the rout was on. Our starters only played 2 minutes in the second half and everyone got quality playing time. Scoring for Fremont was Braiden McDonald with 25, Chris Kennedy with 18, Tristan Campbell with 14, Carter Moon with 10, Martin Curiel with 9, Adam Ward with 7, Jonny Rodriguez with 6, Jaxx Miller with 5, Joshua Zerfas with 3, Lane Converse with 3 and Parker Vandenberg with 2. Win: 67 - 63
Fremont 67 Grant 63. After getting off to a really slow start for the second game this week we were able to win a wild one in front of a packed house of 2500 fans. Grant stormed out to a 14-1 lead 4 minutes into the game. After a timeout we regrouped and led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter and 38-28 at halftime. Carter Moon gave us a huge boost with all 10 of his points in the first half. The second half saw us get into deep foul trouble with 3 starters on the bench and Tristan Campbell in the training room with a badly sprained ankle. Grant closed the gap to 55-50 after 3. Tristan Campbell came back in the 4th and it was a back and forth game to the end. We led all the way until the 2 minute mark when Grant scored to tie it with about 1:30 left. We held the ball until Chris Kennedy broke through the lane with a bucket to put us up two with 20 seconds left. Kennedy had 6 huge points late in the game. After a Grant miss Tristan Campbell was fouled and hit both free throws. Chris Kennedy led us with 16 points, Braiden McDonald who sat out half the game in foul trouble had 14 points, Tristan Campbell had 12 points, 14 rebounds and 8 blocked shots despite missing much of the third quarter with a sprained ankle injury. Carter Moon had 10 points, Joshua Zerfas had 6 points and 5 assists. Jacob Visser played his best varsity game with 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Lane Converse and Jaxx Miller also played great defense in the win. The win extended a few streaks for us. Thats 25 straight regular season wins, 18 straight league wins and 16 straight at home. We go on the road to Tri-County and Chippewa Hills next week. We are 8-0, 5-0.

Win: 46 - 43
We ended up winning the game tonight 46-43 to extend our home winning streak to 15 and stay atop the league at 4-0, 7-0 overall, but we were flat out lucky to win. Newaygo came in and completely outplayed us for 30 of the 32 minutes. Newaygo owned the paint tonight, got most of the 50/50 balls and had twice as many offensive rebounds as us even though we had a size advantage. I thought Coach Barrette was the far better coach tonight with a better game plan to start the game breaking our full court traps and attacking our half court defense. Newaygo also played as a team while we played a very uncharacteristic selfish game. From the first minutes we were behind and trailed most of the game except for briefly in the third quarter. Early in the 4th we were behind by as many as 10 before we were able to make a run. We took a lead with under 2 minutes to go and were able to hold on despite missing 4 of 6 free throws after fouled. We only shot 8 of 22 from the line for the night. Braiden McDonald led us with 16 points and Carter Moon had 14 points. We play another close rival during our rival week on Friday when we host Grant.

Win: 78 - 64
Central montcalm came in undefeated in league play and 4-1 overall. It took a total team effort in the win to beat a very talented and deep Central Montcalm team. I was worried about being rusty as we haven't played in 21 days but we came out strong jumping out to a 8-0 lead and 27-13 first quarter lead. Carter Moon had 11 of his team high 19 points in the first quarter. We led by 17 late second quarter bet CM scored the last 8 to close the gap to 9, we led 43-34 at half and then bumped it up to 58-44 after 3. We kept getting the lead up in the teens but the kept battling back. Carter Moon had 10 rebounds to go with his 19 points, Tristan Campbell had a monster game with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Chris Kennedy had 16 points and 5 stealsJoshua Zerfas had a great all around game with 8 points 6 assists, and 6 rebounds. We are 6-0, 3-0

Win: 57 - 43
On paper this one looked like it was going to be a track meet. Big Rapids came in 2-0 averaging 84.5 points per game and we entered the game 4-0 averaging 77 points per game. It was slow early as shots were not falling for either side, we led 8-6 after the first quarter and 22-20 at halftime. We talked at halftime to stay the course and try to bump it to 7 after 3 quarters and thats what we did, leading 39-32. Big Rapids came out strong in the 4th and tied the game after a few minutes, but we regrouped and wore them down leading by as many as 16. Chris Kennedy led a balanced attack with 16 points. Braiden McDonald had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Joshua Zerfas had 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Carter Moon had a great all-around game with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists and played everywhere from the guard to big throughout the game. It was our 13th straight home win stretching over 2 years and our 22nd straight regular season win. We are 5-0, 2-0.

After an emotional and hard fought win Monday against Ludington ae came out a little flat on the road against Montague. We did win every quarter, but montague played hard and it was a hard fought win. We led 17-15 after 1 and 32-26 at halftime. In the second half we came out really strong and got the lead up to 57-39 at the end of 3 and as much as 28 in the fourth. Braiden McDonald led us with another big game getting 28 points, Tristan Campbell had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Carter Moon had 10 points. Win: 73 - 63
We have only lost one home game in over two years(11-0 last year) and that was to Ludington in the 2017-18 season. Ludington brought in a very deep, physical and talented team and took it to us early leading 15-5 4 minutes into the game. We setting down after a time out and scored 12 of the next 14 points and after one quarter Ludington led 24-22. It was the first time we had trailed all season. The second quarter we made some adjustments to our press and at halftime we were ahead 42-35. Birthday boy Braiden McDonald had 21 of his game high 29 in the first half. Chris Kennedy had 15 of his 27 in the first half also. The second half was extremely physical and intense. We outscored Ludington 19-18 in the third and 12-10 in the fourth. Leading scorers for Fremont were Braiden McDonald with 29, Chris Kennedy had 27, Tristan Campbell had 6 points and 8 rebounds, Carter Moon played a great all-around game with 7 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds. Joshua Zerfas had 4 points, 4 steals and 6 assists. We are now 3-0 overall and play Montague tomorrow at 7pm at Montague. Peyton LaCombe led Ludington with 22 and Eric McKinley had 14.
