The Fremont Packers Varsity Wrestling won the Team District Championship!
It was a great team effort tonight as the Packers were victorious in both duals and were crowned the champions.
Their last District Championship was in 2018.
The Vikings of Tri County had a tough lineup in the first dual of the night. The starting weight class was 119. Sam Parks lost a close match against Ian Boden. At 125, the Vikings won by forfeit. At 130 and 135, the Packers rallied with two pins from Gage Breuker and Alex Gleason. At 140, Matthew Halasinski, won by decision 6-3 over Trent Behrenwald. At 152, Matt Long was able to prevent a tech fall , not allowing bonus points for the Vikings. At 171, Caden Christoffersen battled against Dominic Goldner pinning him in 5:28, which gave the Packers another 6 points. Michael Romero, 189, had an impressive win over Jacob Prestia with a fall in 1:56. At 215, Cody Visscher kept it to a decision, only losing to Nick Prater, 2-0. Kyler Kolk pinned Hunter Hawley at 285 for the Packers. At 103 pounds, RJ Thome clinched the win by pinning Alexis Porter in 1:06. The final score was Fremont 39 and Tri County 37.
In the second dual, the Packers defeated Grant 45-20. Winning for the Packers were Gage Breuker over Joe Millet 8-2. Matthew Halasinski over Chase Kazemier 7-1. Caden Christoffersen over Nolan Convers 11-6. All the rest of the victories by the Packers were pins. Recording 6 points were: Jager Kibart, Trey Breuker, Michael Romero, Kyler Kolk, RJ Thome and Sam Parks.
The Packers are home this weekend and host the individual districts on Saturday. They are currently 22-4 overall.
They travel to Comstock Park next Wednesday, where they face Orchard View in the first dual of the night.
