Fremont Wrestling wrestled for the Gold CSAA Championship on Wednesday
The #7 State-Ranked Packers hosted the Warriors of Chippewa Hills and the Lions of Newaygo on Wednesday to determine the champions of the CSAA. In front of a packed house and spirited crowd, the teams battled and Fremont finished runner-up.
Their first opponent was #4 State ranked Chippewa Hills. The Packers split the matches, winning 7 of the 14 weight classes, but the final difference was four points , losing 33-37. There were some hard fought battles and great pins. RJ Thome and Eli Beasley gave Fremont their first 12 points with two falls. Gage Breuker and Alex Gleason then both posted decisions tying the score 18-18. The next pin recorded for the Packers was by Jager Kibart at 152 pounds, which really fired up the fans. The Warriors then forfeited to Trey Breuker, which made the score 30-33. With two weight classes left, Chase Knudsen , normally at 160, bumped up a weight class to 171 to wrestle Chip Hill's # 4 state ranked Trenton Wiggins. Knudsen had Wiggins on his back several times, but lost a tough one, 4-13. . In the final bout of the match, Kyler Kolk scored a reversal with just seconds left to post the victory, making the dual score 33-37.
In the second dual of the evening, the Packers beat Newaygo 72-12. Pins were recorded by Briar Hambrock, RJ Thome, Eli Beasley, Wei Chen, Matt Halasinski, Matt Long, Caden Christoffersen, and Payton Mansfield. Other victors were Gage Breuker, Trey Breuker, Chase Knudsen, Michael Romero, Zach Anderson and Colby Wright.
