The Fremont Varsity opened the 2024 season with a disappointing 34-20 loss to the Hopkins.  Hopkins opened the scoring in the 1st quarter to take an early 7-0 lead.  The Packers came right back and answered the touchdown when Asa Barnhard took the hand off and out ran the defense for a 51 yard touchdown, but the conversion was no good, bringing the score to 7-6 at the end of the 1st.  Defense was the name of the game in 2nd quarter.  With Hopkins driving, Tritan Corrigan intercepted the pass on the 15 yard line to end the Hopkins threat.  Hopkins was able to punch another touchdown in just before halftime to bring the score to 13-6 going into half.  Hopkins came out of half and put another score on the board to extend their lead to 20-6.  This woke the Pack up and they answered right back after a long kickoff return by Karter Frens set them up on a short field.  The Packers were efficient on this drive and Brayden Crosley scored on 12 yard touchdown run and Khai Noordyk put in the 2 point conversion to cut the Hopkins lead at the end of 3 to 20-14.  The Packers opened the 4th quarter with the ball and very quickly Khai Noordyk punched another Packer touchdown in from 7 yards out to tie the game at 20.  Hopkins then responded with 2 more touchdowns to bring the final score to 34-20.  The Packers had a very balanced offensive attack with 343 total yards.  Leading the way for the Packers on offense was Brayden Crosley was 10 for 14 for 158 yards passing and carried the ball 8 times for 28 yards and a touchdown.  Asa Barnhard lead the rushing attack with 80 yards and a touchdown on 8 carries.  Khai Noordyk had 36 yards on 6 carries and touchdown.  Karter Frens had 150 total yards (12 carries for 55 yards, 3 receptions for 47 and 2 kickoff returns for 48) on the night.  Jacob Burns lead the receivers with 5 receptions for for 67 yards.  Leading the way for the Packers on defense was Seth Zerlaut with 5.5 tackles, Khai Noodyk with 5 and a sack, Noah Hansen with 5 tackles, Jacob Burns, Michael Robinson, and Trentyn Corley all  with 4.  Tritan Corrigan had an interception.  The Packers open the up league play next Friday when they host Manistee.
