Fremont faced a tough loss to Newaygo, 10-5, on Saturday in the Newaygo County Tournament.

Brayden Crosley’s single in the bottom of the fifth inning helped tie the game at five, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Newaygo's offense.

Gabe Jones took the loss for the Packers, pitching one inning and allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit, with no strikeouts and one walk. Chase Mercer started on the mound, giving up six hits and five runs (four earned) over four innings while striking out eight and walking five.

Offensively, Brayden Crosley led Fremont with two RBIs, going 1-for-2 at the plate. Ben Mellema, batting from the number seven spot, contributed significantly with two hits in two at-bats. Deagan Klimek and Johnny Keena each stole multiple bases, adding to Fremont's total of five stolen bases for the game.

Fremont will aim to bounce back on Tuesday when they face Orchard View.
