The Lions of Newaygo traveled to Fremont Thursday afternoon for a battle between two unbeaten teams in the conference. It was a tight contest throughout with the score begin tied at 0-0 at the half. Fremont finally broke the tie with 5 minutes to play on a David Wachter penalty kick. Newaygo answered with just 2 minutes left in the match on a goal from Francisco Rios. The score stood at 1-1. Newaygo outshot the Packers 8-6. Joe Kortge made 7 saves for the Packers while Matthew Richardson made 5 saves for Newaygo. Fremont moved to 10-3-4 overall and 5-0-2 in the conference while Newaygo moved to 13-1-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the conference giving them first place for the regular season. The conference tournament begins next Monday.
