2021 Hill and Bale Invitational
Nice Temps – a little breezy late.
I cannot start the write up without first thanking our awesome maintenance department that had the course looking great, the FFA crew for setting up the hay bales, our race day volunteers who kept the races running smoothly, Mr. Walls for making sure we had everything we needed and helping today, Coach Hamilton for keeping the team organized and coaching them up, and Doug Harmon announcing and providing music.
The girls ran first this year and got us off to a solid start. We only ran 3 in the varsity race as we are still build some confidence in several runners. Taylor Mater (Sr) led the race wire to wire to take the win by 40 seconds. Taava Johnson (Sr) placed 9th after moving up well in the 2nd half of the race and running almost 30 seconds faster than last year. Elise Pfeiffer (So) rounded out or varsity runners by running almost 2 minutes faster than last year to place 29th. Rachel Maddox (Fr) led the way for our JV runners earning a medal in 7th place. Hailey Spangler (So) continues to improve placing 24th.
The boys won the varsity race with 23 points. Conor Somers (Sr), led a 1, 2, 3 finish with Gavin and Brennan Schuler (Sr) placing 2nd and 3rd. Freshman Cole Lowery ran a real solid race placing 7th. Johnny Christensen (So) placed 12th to give us 5 medal winners. Freshmen Gabe Jones and Carter Sherman had solid races giving us 7 in the top 20. In the JV race the boys also went 1, 2, 3 with Sean Pettis (So), Gary Springstead (Jr), and Blake Taylor (Fr) pacing the race. Luke Bradley ran a much better 2nd race to medal in 7th place.
