The Packers traveled to Ludington on Friday night to open league play against the Orioles. Despite a solid effort defensively against a formidable opponent, Fremont couldn't keep the game close due to a lack of offensive production. The Packers were down 15-1 at the end of the first quarter, before outscoring the hosts 8-6 in the second quarter to set the halftime score at 21-9. The Orioles stretched the lead further in the third with a 12-5 advantage, before a 14-2 final quarter set the final score at 47-16.
The Packers were led in scoring by Jessica Bennett with 7 points. Ludington's balanced scoring attack was led by Olivia Lynn's 9 points.
The Packers dropped to 0-2 on the young season, 0-1 in the WMC Lakes division. Ludington improved to 1-1, 1-0 in the conference. Fremont travels to Shelby Tuesday in a WMC crossover matchup.
Coach Zerlaut -- "You aren't going to win games when you go 4-37 from the field shooting. Our effort was strong. Our defensive execution was actually very good. Ludington is a talented team that made contested shots, scored over us, and played excellent defense to speed the game up and make us very uncomfortable when shooting the ball. We need to get better offensively in order to better compete against really good teams."
