Fremont lost to Newaygo in district semi-final action Wednesday. The Lions dominated the game on the scoreboard, winning 51-17. The Packers trailed 14-6 after one, and 27-11 at the half. Then Newaygo blew the game wide open with a 20-1 third quarter advantage. Fremont outscored the Lions 5-4 in a low-scoring final quarter to set the final.

Haley Zerlaut had 8 points and Mia Witte had 6 for Fremont. Kaitlynn Bennett and Sydney Moon each had 5 rebounds. Newaygo was led by Emmerson Goodin's 24 points and Grace Painter had 10.

Coach Zerlaut -- "Newaygo is obviously a very good team. There is a reason they have won 20 games this season. We talked a lot about competing on every possession, playing hard on defense, and making them earn all the points they got. I thought we did that. Our undoing was on the offensive end of the floor tonight. We turned it over way too much, and their pressure half court defense sped us up and forced us into bad shots when we didn't turn it over."
