CHIPPEWA HILLS HIGH SCHOOL: 60
Fremont hosted the Chippewa Hills Warriors on Wednesday night and produced a season-high 65 points. They needed almost all of them, as they gave up 60. It was a close game throughout, with Fremont trailing 15-12 after one quarter but taking the lead in the second and heading to the locker room with a 30-28 advantage. They got outscored in the third 17-11 and trailed 45-41 heading to the fourth quarter. It took most of that quarter before they ever got the lead, but some key shots and made free throws were enough to pull out a 65-60 come from behind win.
Khaila Noordyk had a huge first half with 14 of her team-high 18 points. She also finished with a team leading 9 rebounds. Haley Zerlaut added 14 points, 9 assists, and 6 steals. Mia Witte scored 13 points. Jessica Bennett added 9 points and 6 rebounds. Shelby Fall had 19 points for the Warriors, Madison Wrisley added 18, and Desiree Brown added 10.
The Packers finish the regular season Friday at Reed City, before beginning district play on Monday night against Comstock Park.
Coach Zerlaut -- "It wasn't pretty, but the girls found a way to win. We really struggled defensively tonight to stop Chip. Credit to them for continuing to attack the basket and expose our defense. We committed 22 fouls to their 15, and they had a 35-12 advantage in free throw opportunities. Wins haven't been plentiful for us this season, but I was really glad the girls found a way to get it done in the fourth quarter and was happy for our seniors to walk off the floor for their final home game with a win."
