CENTRAL MONTCALM HIGH SCHOOL: 69
Fremont traveled to Stanton Friday night to face the Central Montcalm Hornets. The Hornets were on fire shooting the basketball, ending up shooting 54% for the game from the field (22-41). This included going 8-17 from beyond the three-point arc. Despite this hot shooting, the Packers were right in the game through the first two quarters. The Hornets led 17-14 after one quarter and 30-27 at the half. However, Fremont struggled shooting the ball in the third quarter, and Maia Sexton scored 10 points in the quarter to help the Hornets to a 21-4 advantage and make the score after three quarters 51-31. The Packers didn't go away, trimming the deficit to 10 in the fourth quarter with some effective full court defense. However, they could get no closer and had to begin fouling to try and regain possession of the ball.
Haley Zerlaut led Fremont with 21 points and 6 assists. Mia Witte had 16 points. Sexton finished with 22 points for the Hornets and Emily Putnam had 20.
Coach Zerlaut -- "Credit to Central Montcalm. They shot the ball extremely well tonight. We thought our advantage would be our pressure defense and picking up the pace of the game, but we were a step slow tonight and weren't able to dictate the pace of the game until the fourth quarter, and the deficit proved to be too much for us to overcome. We need to be able to win games that we score 55 points in, but we were just not good enough defensively tonight."
