CHIPPEWA HILLS HIGH SCHOOL: 41
The Packers traveled to Remus on Tuesday to face the Chippewa Hills Warriors and left with a 45-41 victory. Fremont held a 10-6 lead after the first quarter before an 18-10 second quarter built a 28-16 lead at halftime. This quarter was sparked by some spirited play off the bench, led by Lily VandenBerg's 6 points in the quarter. Six different players scored for the Packers in the quarter. Fremont was outscored 12-7 in the third quarter and 13-10 in the fourth, which made it a tight game in the final three minutes. 6-16 shooting from the free throw line in the fourth quarter nearly doomed the Packers. They were 9-23 from the line for the game, compared to Chip Hills going 13-15.
Fremont was led in scoring by Haley Zerlaut with 13 and Lily VandenBerg with 12. The win improves the Packers to 2-9 overall and 2-4 in the league. They host Reed City on Friday.
Coach Zerlaut -- "We did not play our best basketball tonight but we found a way to win. We shot poorly and forced things on offense at times, which led to some poor turnovers. Credit to Chip Hills; I thought they played very hard tonight. We had chances to put the game away earlier with free throws, but didn't. Our energy was not very good in the first quarter, but I thought we really turned that around in the second quarter, which ended up being the difference in the game."
