TRI-COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL: 50
Fremont traveled to Howard City Friday night to play the Tri County Vikings. Tri County jumped out to a 17-12 lead after the first quarter behind Emmi McNees's 10 points in the quarter. The second quarter saw Allyson Johnson score 14 of her team's 15 points, but Haley Zerlaut hit a three from 30 feet at the buzzer to give the Packers a one point advantage in the quarter and close the halftime deficit to four at 28-24. Scoring slowed down in the third, with the Vikings holding a 9-6 advantage. Fremont then outscored the Vikings 13-9 in the fourth, but couldn't get all the way back and lost 50-47.
The Packers were led by Haley Zerlaut's 27 points and 6 steals. Khaila Noordyk had 8 points and 11 rebounds. Kaitlynn Bennett added 7 points. McNees and Johnson both finished with 14 points for Tri County.
The Packers fell to 1-8 overall, 1-4 in the conference. They host Montague on Monday.
Coach Zerlaut -- "It was a better effort tonight, but we didn't make shots at crucial points in the game. We fell behind early despite getting very good scoring opportunities. The biggest wasted opportunity was in the third quarter when we had closed the gap to two points at 34-32. We had three straight possessions with shots to tie or take the lead, but couldn't convert any of them. Then TC went on a 7-2 run to end the quarter and put us down by 7 again going into the fourth quarter."
