The Newaygo Lions' full court pressure wreaked havoc on the host Packers early in this game. Newaygo jumped out to a 23-6 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Jaxi Long had 12 of her game high 17 points in that opening frame. The Lions held a 17-11 scoring advantage in the second quarter to make the halftime score 40-17. The Packers turned the ball over 33 times in the game, including 19 times in the first half.
Newaygo outscored Fremont 14-7 and 14-8 in the third and fourth quarters to set the final score at 68-32. Emmerson Goodin and Isabella Welch each notched 16 points for Newaygo. Fremont was led by Khaila Noordyk's 9 points and 12 rebounds.
The Packers are now 1-6 overall, 1-2 in the CSAA Gold. They host the Grant Tigers on Tuesday.
Coach Zerlaut -- "We got overwhelmed early by a good basketball team tonight. We did not handle their full court pressure well and it turned into a lot of points for them. They were aggressive and quick, and we did not take care of the ball as well as we needed to."
