CEDAR SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL: 44
The Packers traveled to Cedar Springs on Tuesday night looking for their first win of the young season, but were turned away in the end with a 44-37 defeat. Things looked good early for Fremont, as they jumped out to an 8-2 lead 3 minutes into the game. However, a 12-0 run to end the quarter put Cedar Springs on top 14-8 after one quarter of play. Cedar Springs held an 8-6 advantage in the 2nd quarter to lead 22-14 at the half. Fremont cut the lead to 28-22 after three quarters. Cedar Springs went on a run to increase the lead to double digits, before the Packers put their own string of offense together to get within 4 points midway through the fourth. However, they could get no closer and the 16-15 fourth quarter advantage for Cedar Springs set the final score.
Jessica Bennett and Haley Zerlaut each had 11 points for Fremont, while Kaitlynn Bennett had 8 points and 9 rebounds. The Packers were hurt by empty possessions in the fourth quarter due to turnovers, and the Red Hawks controlled the defensive glass late in the game.
Cedar Springs was led by Jesse Patin's 14 points, while Darrah Miller added 10. The Packers host Central Montcalm on Friday.
