GRANT HIGH SCHOOL: 37
Fremont did a lot of things right in the first half Friday night, but missed several short shots that could have led to a much larger halftime lead. As it was, the Packers held an 8-3 lead after one quarter and a 22-10 lead at the half. To Grant's credit, they did not back down. They trimmed the Packer lead to 11 by the end of the third quarter, and then outscored Fremont 14-10 in the fourth quarter. Grant matched the Packers in the rebounding category in the second half, and repeatedly won the race to loose balls. The Tigers were also aggressive in driving to the basket, and the Packers were often a step slow in stopping them. Fremont's lead was trimmed to 42-36 late in the game, but the Tigers got no closer, and the Packers survived with a 44-37 win.
Calla Miller led Fremont with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Natalie Jamieson added 8 points, all in the second half, and 10 rebounds. Grant was led by Kristen Throop with 15 points and Jaycee Rider with 14 points. The win improved the Packers' overall record to 13-5, 11-1 in the conference. They host Tri County on Tuesday.
