NEWAYGO HIGH SCHOOL: 30
It was another low scoring affair for the Packers, as their shooting struggles continued. However, their defense was up to the challenge to keep the game close throughout. Fremont held a 6-3 advantage after the first quarter, but trailed 15-11 at the half. Newaygo extended the lead by another point in the third to hold a 23-18 advantage after three quarters. The teams traded baskets to start the fourth, and Newaygo held a 27-21 advantage with about 6:00 to play. However, the Packer defense held the Lions without a basket from there until the end of the game, with the only Newaygo points coming on three free throws after a foul on a long three-point attempt as time expired. The Packer offense put together 14 points during that same time period, to take a 35-27 lead with seconds remaining before the late foul. Paige Vandenberg held the Packers in it early on, scoring 8 of her 11 points in the first half. Calla Miller and Natalie Jamieson were the only Packers to score from the field in the second half, with Jamieson tallying 9 points, and Miller scoring 8 of her 11 in the second half. Vandenberg finished with 10 rebounds, while Miller tallied 4 assists. Jaxie Long led the Lions with 9 points.
The win improves the Packers' overall record to 12-5, 10-1 in the conference. They travel to Grant for another league matchup with the Tigers on Friday.
