XC CSAA Gold Jamboree #1 at Grant
Sunny – mid 70s, light wind
What a race. We knew going in that this was going to be a battle with Chippewa Hills. The girls were focused on where they needed to finish compared to Chips top 5 to beat them. We got out a little slow but made up a lot of ground over the last mile to put us in contention. We didn’t quite get to where we wanted to be, but we were in the mix. Taylor Mater (So) ran with the leaders through 2 miles where she started to apply a little pressure and open a slight gap. With about a 1000 to go she really started to pull away to win by about 15 seconds to help our team cause. Leah Converse (Jr) closed the gap to Chips #3 the whole race but didn’t quite get there, while Erin Norton (Jr) ran her best race of the season to finish shortly behind Leah. Taava Johnson (So) and Annika Tuls (Sr) ran solid races to round out our top 5. Lauren Boerger (Sr) came in as our 6th with a PR while Alyssa Gustman (Sr) ran a season record as our 7th runner. In the team race Reed City ran a great race to sneak in on both us and Chip Hills to win. They had some big improvements to surprise us. The team race was about as close as it can get – Chip Hills 3rd with 61 points, Fremont 2nd with 59 points, and Reed City 1st with 58 points.
The boys won in dominate fashion scoring 16 points and placing 7 the top 9 finishers. Nathan Walker (Jr) led the way, followed by Conor Somers (So), Josh Zerfas (Jr), and Ben Paige (Jr) to place 1-4. Mikko Vesma (Sr), Adam Ward (Jr), and Gavin Schuler (So) placed 6-8th. Colton Best (Jr) ran his best race of the season to place 11th. Colton Isenhart (Jr) ran a great race to set a huge PR to place 53rd, with Peem Torjaras (Sr) also setting a PR.
